Anthony Anderson
Head Coach
Anthony Q. Anderson joined the FMU family as head men's basketball coach in spring 2026. Anderson brings nearly three decades of collegiate coaching and administrative experience, having coached at every level of the game, including NCAA Division I, junior college, NAIA, HBCU, and high school, along with extensive experience in AAU basketball and player development. Most recently, Anderson served as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale, where he built the program from the ground up into a nationally recognized competitor. Under his leadership, the program earned multiple national rankings, achieved 100+ wins, and consistently competed at a high level within NCCAA Division I. Coach Anderson led the Eagles to multiple NCCAA appearances, coached eight All-Conference players, and guided the program to the 2023 South Regional Championship and a Final Four appearance. During the 2024–25 season, the Eagles finished sixth nationally in the NCCAA. Most recently, Anderson was named the South Regional Coach of the Year for the 2025–26 season, a postseason honor recognizing his leadership and the program’s outstanding performance. Throughout his career, Anderson has demonstrated a commitment to student-athlete development both on and off the court, taking pride in maintaining a 97% graduation rate among his players. His coaching background includes stops at the University of Miami, Florida International University, Broward College, Lamar University, Central Connecticut State University, Tulane University, the University of New Orleans, Dillard University, and McNeese State University, among others, giving him a comprehensive understanding of building and sustaining competitive programs. In addition to his coaching success, Anderson brings extensive experience in program administration, compliance, fundraising, and community engagement. He has led fundraising initiatives generating over $100,000 in support of student-athlete development and program growth, while also building strong relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners. A respected figure in the basketball community, Anderson has deep recruiting ties throughout South Florida and across the state, positioning FMU to attract top talent while maintaining strong connections with local high school and AAU programs.

Anthony Anderson Jr.
Associate Head Coach
Anthony Anderson Jr joined the FMU family as Co-Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach in Summer 2026, bringing more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, junior college and NAIA levels. Widely respected for his recruiting ability, player development and relationship-building, Anderson has helped develop numerous all-conference performers while contributing to multiple postseason teams throughout his career. Prior to joining FMU, Anderson served as an assistant coach at the University of Houston under head coach Matthew Mitchell. Before Houston, he spent three seasons at SMU, where he helped guide the Mustangs to a WNIT appearance and coached multiple All-American Athletic Conference honorees. During the 2023-24 season, SMU ranked among the AAC leaders in field goal percentage, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio while developing All-AAC Second Team selection Tiara Young. In his first season with the Mustangs, SMU earned its third consecutive WNIT appearance while ranking among the conference leaders in scoring defense. Before SMU, Anderson spent three seasons at UTEP, helping the Miners post a 31-12 home record while developing multiple All-Conference USA performers and contributing to a second-place conference finish in 2020-21. He also served as recruiting coordinator at Sam Houston and spent five seasons at UTRGV, where the Vaqueros recorded three consecutive 19-win seasons and made three postseason appearances. Earlier coaching stops included Lamar State College-Port Arthur and Paul Quinn College. Known as one of the region’s top recruiters and player development coaches, Anderson has built a reputation for mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court while helping establish winning cultures. At FMU, he assists in all aspects of the program, including recruiting, player development, scouting, game preparation and program administration. Anderson earned his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from Florida International University in 2011 and a master’s degree in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy in 2013.

Antwann Anderson
Associate Head Coach
Antwann Anderson joined the FMU family as Co-Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach in Summer 2026, bringing extensive experience in collegiate coaching, recruiting, player development and athletic administration. Prior to FMU, Anderson served as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Fort Lauderdale, where he helped guide the Eagles to a 17-10 record, an NCCAA National Tournament appearance and a No. 6 national ranking. He coordinated the team’s offensive system while overseeing recruiting, player development and the academic progress of student-athletes. Before returning to the UFTL, Anderson spent four seasons as Head Men’s Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Atlantis University. He founded the men’s basketball program, compiled a 42-18 overall record and led the program to its first USCAA National Tournament appearance while earning multiple Top-8 national rankings. His administrative responsibilities included student-athlete admissions, academic advising, financial aid support and athletic department operations. Recognized for his commitment to developing the complete student-athlete, Anderson emphasizes excellence in recruiting, player development, academics and leadership. His coaching philosophy is centered on discipline, accountability and fostering a championship culture. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University.

Josh Mendoza
Assistant Coach
Joshua Mendoza joined the FMU family as assistant men's basketball coach and head men's developmental basketball coach in 2020. Playing Career: Joshua Mendoza boasts an illustrious playing career, marked by his exceptional skills and contributions. A four-year starter at Johnson & Wales University, he was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Year in 2017. Following his collegiate career, Mendoza transitioned into professional basketball, playing for Regattas, Lima, and Osos De La Salle in Peru. His tenure in Peru was highlighted by two national championships in 2018 and 2019, where he was named Finals MVP on both occasions. Coaching Career: With a passion for mentoring and developing talent, Mendoza embarked on his coaching journey in 2020. Despite early setbacks, he quickly rose to prominence as the Associate Head Coach at Johnson & Wales University in 2020 before assuming the role of Head Developmental Basketball Coach and Assistant Varsity Coach at Florida Memorial University shortly after. At Florida Memorial University, he pioneered the developmental program, leading it to unprecedented success. Under his guidance, the team clinched two developmental conference championships in 2021 and 2024, cementing his legacy as a transformative leader in player development. Mendoza's remarkable coaching record of 76-36 over four years stands as a testament to his strategic acumen and dedication to excellence. Creation Basketball Academy: In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, Mendoza is the visionary founder of Creation Basketball Academy, a premier youth basketball academy serving the aspiring athletes of South Florida. Through personalized coaching and comprehensive skill development programs, Creation Basketball Academy empowers young players to reach their full potential both on and off the court. Mendoza's commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and sportsmanship has earned Creation Basketball Academy widespread acclaim within the local community. Notable Achievements: · Named Sun Conference Developmental Commissioner · Instrumental in the expansion of the Sun Conference Developmental League from 8 to 14 teams · Assisted the mens varsity program to two Sun Conference championships in 2022 and 2024, with subsequent national appearances. · Led the mens developmental basketball team to two Sun Conference Developmental championships in 2022 & 2024. Personal Interests: Beyond the basketball court, Joshua Mendoza is deeply passionate about community engagement and youth empowerment.
