Ben Martucci

Head Coach

Martucci was promoted to head coach of the Moccasin cross country and track teams in January of 2013. He was previously the assistant coach for cross country and track during the fall after serving as interim men's track coach in the spring of 2012. The 2014 men's cross country team won the South Region crown and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season under Martucci. Three Moccasin runners earned All-SSC honors and four were named to the All-South Region First Team. Martucci took home his third South Region Coach of the Year award. In the Division II National Championships, the Mocs placed 29th, led by sophomore Robert Orsmby in 59th place. Ormsby also excelled during the outdoor track season, breaking Martucci's record in the 3,000-meter race at the Embry-Riddle Last Chance Meet. He earned All-South Region in the 5,000-meter race after falling one-tenth of a second shy of the school record at the Pepsi Florida Relays. In his second season at the helm of Moccasin cross country teams in 2014, he led the men's team to repeat South Regional title and a 29th place at the NCAA Division II National Championships. He was also once again tabbed as the USTFCCCA South Region Coach of the Year. In addition, three men's track runners earned USTFCCCA All-South Region: Robert Ormsby (5K), David Tomchinsky (10K), and Chris Yanichko (5K and 10K). In his first season, in 2013, he led the men's cross country team to its 16th all-time Sunshine State Conference title and also its first South Regional title since 2007 and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Championships, where FSC finished 27th overall. In addition, he was tabbed the SSC and the USTFCCCA South Region Coach of the Year. Martucci ranks as one of the top distance runners in Moccasin history. During his four-year career (2007-10) he was a two-time SSC individual cross country champion (2009 & 2010) and ran on four SSC championship teams, placing fifth individually as a freshman and as a sophomore. He was named SSC Runner of the Year as a junior and senior and was team MVP both years. In track, he owns the Moccasins best times in the 800 meters (1:58.10), 1,500 meters (3:54.52), 3,000 meters (8:42.95) and 5,000 meters (14:40.47). He graduated from Florida Southern in 2011 with a bachelors degree in human movement and performance and earned a Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University-Irvine in Irvine, Calif., in December 2015.

Stephanie Bylander

Assistant Coach

Bylander enters her first season in 2015-16 with the Moccasin men's and women's cross country and track programs as an assistant coach.  Bylander comes to Florida Southern after spending the past year as an assistant track and volunteer assistant cross country coach at Woodland Park High School in Woodland Park, Colo. In track, she primarily worked with the distance runners at WPHS. Along with her coaching duties at Woodland Park, Bylander was also the school's athletics/activities office assistant. In her duties with the track program, Bylander was responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of coaching the team's distance squad, from writing comprehensive traininng plans, to speaking with parents, to facilitating workouts on a daily basis. She was also in charge of the team's Facebook page and its blog for the distance team. As the school's volunteer cross country coach, Bylander assisted with writing training schedules and facilitating workouts. The girls' team at WPHS qualifed for the State Championships for the first time in several years during Bylander's only season. Prior to working at Woodland Park High School, Bylander, who is a native of Fountain, Colo., spent the 2011-12 school year as an assistant track and field coach at Sangre De Cristo Middle School in Mosca, Colo., before spending two years (2008-09) as a recreation specialist with the Alamosa Parks and Recreation Department in Alamosa, Colo., and she spent three years serving as a substitute teacher with the Alamosa Public Schools while pursuing a professional running career. As a collegiate student-athlete at Adams State from 2001-05, Bylander was a 10-time All-American as she was a four-time All-American in cross country (2001, '02, '03, '04), an All-American in the 5,000 meters in indoor track in 2005 and a five-time All-American in outdoor track (10,000 meters in 2003, 5,000 and 10,000 meters in 2004 and 2005). In addition, she was a member of Adams State's Division II National Champion Cross Country teams in both 2003 and 2004 and was a four-time Top 3 finisher at the Division II National Championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track). In 2004, Bylander was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Athlete of the Year and was also tabbed the 2004 North Central Region Athlete of the Year and was a scoring member of a Top 3 Division II Indoor and Outdoor National Championship teams as a senior in 2005. Along with being a standout on the field, Bylander was also a standout in the classroom as she was a four-time member of the USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams and earned a 2006 Road Runners Club of America Roads Scholar Award.  Her 5K time of 16:14.5 in 2005 ranks 22nd on the USTFCCCA All-Time Division II performance list, while her 34:00.7 time in the 10,000-meter run in 2005 ranks 18th in the USTFCCCA All-Time Division II performance list. Following her All-American collegiate career, Bylander spent eight years running professionally as she began her professional running career in 2005 competing for Reebok and then in 2007, she switched and began competing for Brooks, until taking the 2009 season off for maternity leave. In 2010, she began running as a member of the Boulder Running Company and ran for them until 2014, while also running as a member of the American Distance Project from 2012-14. Among her post collegiate accomplishments are seven Top 15 finishes at USATF Championship events, an eighth place finish in 2005 at the USATF 5K Championships, a seventh place finish in 2005 at the USATF 20K Championships and a fifth place finish at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in 2007. She was also a four-time member of the USA National Team (World Half, two Ekiden Relays and the NACAC XC Championships) and was 12th at the USATF 8K Cross Country Championships in 2006.   Bylander earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise physiology and exercise science from Adams State in 2005. She is the mother of a six-year-old daughter, Allie.
