Dennis Weber
Head Coach
Weber is in his 19th season with the Tiger track and field program and 10th year as head coach after serving as co-head coach for three years. Weber's current responsibilities include running the fall track program and overseeing the sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and multi-event athletes. He also helps with recruiting, organizes the weight training program, maintains the Tigers' records and performance standards and directs the annual track meets and coaches clinics. In his 18 years at FHSU, Weber has led 90 athletes to NCAA II All-America status including five individual national champions. The Tiger men's teams have won seven conference titles as well. In 2002, a former local sprinter was ranked 12th in the world in the 60M dash. Two other sprinters have been ranked in the top 25 in the U.S. and have qualified in the U.S. Championships and Olympic Trials. Coach Weber has developed a sprint training program called "response training" that is used with the current program. Weber is USATF Level I and II certified in the jumps. He was named coach of the year in the RMAC during the 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006 outdoor seasons. He has recently served on the NCAA Championships Committee. He is currently on the board of the USATF Missouri Valley Association and serves as a conference representative for the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Prior to coming to Fort Hays in the fall of 1996, Weber was the head men's and women's track and cross country coach at Baker University in Baldwin, Kan., from 1987 to 1996. While competing as a distance runner, he received his bachelor's degree in Industrial Education and Physical Education from the University of Idaho and then completed master's work in Exercise Science at Emporia State. Weber served as a graduate assistant coach for the Hornets in both track and cross country. Before that, the Goodland, Kan. native taught and coached at the high school level for five years. Dennis is married to the former Patty O'Connor. They have three daughters, Pamela, Lindsey and Stephanie. Andreas Maheras
Assistant Coach
Maheras is in his 10th year of his second stint with the Tiger track and field program. He is in charge of the throwers of the team and their training regime. Maheras was a volunteer assistant coach at FHSU in 1991. As a discus and shot-put thrower in his native country of Greece, he competed both for his club and as a member of the national team and won numerous awards from 1980 to 1987. He received his diploma from the University of Athens in Physical Education and Sports Science in 1986. He also served in the Greek Army from 1987 to 1988 where he was a sergeant in the reserves and a selected member of the Greek Presidential Guard. After serving in the army, he worked as an elementary school physical education teacher in Athens, Greece for one year. Dr. Maheras came to the United States in 1989, having received a scholarship from the ministry of culture in Greece to study abroad. He served as an assistant coach at Western Michigan University for two years where he obtained his master's degree in Coaching and Sport Studies in 1990. After his first stint at Fort Hays State, Maheras attended the University of Kansas where in 1995 he obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Exercise Science with emphasis in Biomechanics. He has authored a research project about weight training for track and field events and has published several articles pertaining to throwing in both the domestic and the international literature. At Fort Hays, he has coached a number of throwers to the national level and to the All-American or the national champion status. His throwers hold a total of eight school throwing records.

Jason McCullough
Coach
McCullough was named the Men's MIAA Conference Coach of the Year after leading the cross country team to its first-ever MIAA Championship. The 2012 squad was ranked as high as 17th in the national polls and second in the NCAA Central Region. While at FHSU, the men and women have recorded 13 total top-seven region performances. In 2007, the Tiger women ended the season fourth in the region, just missing an NCAA berth. The FHSU women ended the season ranked 24th in the NCAA II polls, their first national ranking in ten years. The mens squad was ranked as high as 25th in the NCAA during the 2010 season. McCullough has coached cross country runners to 46 All-MIAA performances over the past 11 seasons. Tiger harriers have also recorded 13 South Central All-Region awards and 63 national All-Academic Team honors during that span. Between cross country and track & field over the past 10 years, Tiger distance and middle distance runners have amassed 133 All-Conference awards. Middle distance and long distance runners have broken the school record in indoor and outdoor track a total of 33 times since 2005. The womens cross country squad was named an All-Academic Team nationally in each of the past 11 seasons, while the mens squad recorded six such awards. McCullough returned to the cross country and track & field squads after a successful running career with the Tiger program from 1996-99. McCullough was an NCAA II All-American and five-time Academic All-American while competing for the Tigers during that span. The four-time national qualifier also earned five all-conference awards while competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, known for its national-caliber distance running reputation. He led the Tiger cross country squad to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA II meet in 1997, its highest finish since joining NCAA Division II. McCullough also owned the school record for 3,000 meters. McCullough spent two seasons at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School as the head cross country/ assistant track & field coach from 1999-2001. He served as a volunteer assistant with the FHSU track & field squad during the 2001-02 seasons. The 1999 FHSU graduate has also been active in the area running community, serving as both a race director and running club coordinator since graduating from FHSU. He started the Wild West 5K in 2007 and has grown the race to nearly 300 participants over the past 10 years. McCullough also works in the Health and Human Performance department as an instructor. He earned his undergraduate degree from FHSU in English in 1999 and completed a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration in 2001. He completed a second bachelor degree in Spanish in May of 2005. He had also spent the previous six years in the FHSU Sports Information Department, where he worked as the head Sports Information Director for three years. He was named Conference SID of the Year during the 2004-05 year. McCullough is just the fourth cross country coach in the 57-year history of the program. McCullough resides in Hays with his wife, the former Karen Kreutzer, and their son, Elijah, and daughter, Natalie.
