uis Rincon is preparing to enter his second season as head coach of the Francis Marion University men's soccer program. Rincon was named to his new post on Feb. 14, 2019, and became the seventh head coach in the 44-year history of the Francis Marion program. In his first year, he guided the Patriots to a 16-5-1 record, the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Tournament title, and the program's third-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. FMU finished the season ranked No.22 in the United Soccer Coaches final NCAA II Top 25 poll, after being nationally ranked for seven weeks during the regular season, including three weeks in the Top 10. The team's win total was the third-highest total in team history, including a first-round victory in the NCAA Tournament. FMU led the Peach Belt with a 0.74 goals against average and a school-record 11 shutouts. Rincon received the 2020 Frankie Award for Head Coach of the Year, and the 2019 Patriot men's soccer squad received the 2020 Frankie Award for Most Outstanding Team. A native of Bogota, Colombia, prior to coming to Florence Rincon headed the Ohio Valley mens program for the past four seasons, registering a 55-23-7 record and earning a pair of NCAA Division II Tournament appearances. In his final season (2018), he guided OVU to an 18-6-1 mark and an appearance in the Elite Eight of the national tournament. The Fighting Scots finished the year ranked No.10 after reaching as high as second in the nation. His 2017 squad posted a 17-2-4 record that included both the Great Midwest Conference regular-season and tournament titles and an NCAA Tournament invitation. The team was nationally ranked for eight consecutive weeks, finishing the year at No.6. He took over an OVU mens program that was 0-17-0 before his arrival and immediately turned the program around. His first squad went 9-8-1 and garnered the programs first-ever berth in the Great Midwest Conference Tournament. The next year, the Fighting Scots produced an 11-7-1 campaign, setting a school-record for wins in a season, and placed second during the G-MAC regular season. He also guided the OVU womens team to a two-year record of 33-4-6, including two conference regular-season and tournament titles, and two NCAA Tournament bids. Prior to taking the OVU position, he served four seasons as an assistant coach for both mens and womens soccer at his alma mater, Texas A&M International University. Also during that time, he worked as an assistant instructor for weight training, aerobic training, and soccer. He also worked for three years as a mens and womens assistant at another of his alma maters, Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla., and has experience coaching with the Eden Prairie Soccer Club in Minneapolis, Minn. Rincon earned a B.A. degree in business administration from Warner in 2008 and an M.B.A. degree in international business from Texas A&M International in 2010. He holds an advanced national diploma from the NSCAA. Luis Rincon is preparing to enter his seventh season as head coach of the Francis Marion University men's soccer program. Rincon was named to his new post on Feb. 14, 2019, and became the seventh head coach in the 51-year history of the Francis Marion program. His men's career coaching mark stands at 112-51-32 over 10 seasons as a college head coach -- including a 57-28-25 record at FMU. Francis Marion has been picked as the preseason favorite in the 2025 Conference Carolinas Men’s Soccer Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and the Patriots are also listed among the other schools receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches 2025 preseason Top 25 poll. Last season (2024), Rincon guided FMU to a 10-5-7 record and the Patriots won the Conference Carolinas East Division title, captured the conference tournament championship, and earned the program’s fourth-ever NCAA National Tournament bid. In 2023, he directed Francis Marion to a 7-4-6 record, the Conference Carolinas East Division title, and the top seed in the conference tournament. His squad earned a College Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches organization for the fourth time in his five seasons in Florence. In 2022, he led FMU to an 8-6-5 record, a tie for second during the Conference Carolinas regular season, and a second straight appearance in the conference tournament title match. In 2021, he guided the Patriots to a 12-5-2 mark and the regular-season title in the program's first year as a member of Conference Carolinas. The Patriots also reached the title match of the conference tournament and Rincon was named the league's Coach of the Year. In 2020, his Patriots posted a 4-3-4 mark and made a second straight appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title match. Nicolas Rodriguez
Assistant Coach
Nicolas Rodriguez enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Francis Marion University men’s soccer program. Most recently, he served as a personal soccer trainer, while working in the restaurant industry. Rodriguez served two seasons as an assistant coach at Ohio Valley University under head coach Jordan Valentine in 2020-21. The Fighting Scots captured the 2020-21 Great Midwest Spring Championship following an impressive 11-0-1 overall record. Prior to his coaching career, Rodriguez played at Ohio Valley in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) from 2016-19. The Fighting Scots secured three-straight appearances in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament (2017-19), including reaching the Elite 8 in 2018 after capturing the Midwest Regional Championship. Additionally, Ohio Valley claimed the 2017 G-MAC Tournament Championship following a 3-1 victory over Davis & Elkins. Francis Marion head men’s soccer coach Luis Rincon coached Rodriguez for three seasons at OVU after serving as the head coach at the institution from 2015-18. As a player, Rodriguez was a three-time consensus All-Midwest Region selection from United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA. He earned G-MAC All-Conference honors four times in his career, including three first-team selections. Rodriguez also ranks among the top 10 all-time in G-MAC history with 70 points, 26 goals, 18 assists, and 75 games played. Rodriguez achieved double-digit victories in all four seasons with Fighting Scots. Rodriguez earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Valley in 2020. (July 2025)

Owen Turner
Assistant Coach
Owen Turner begins his first season as a graduate assistant coach for the Patriot men's soccer program. Turner is part of the MBA program at Francis Marion. He was a member of the 2024 Patriot squad -- appearing in five matches, including one start -- that captured the Conference Carolinas Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament. He was named to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll and the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll for each of the semesters in the 2024-25 school year. He earned a B.B.A. degree in sports management from Northwood University in Michigan. As a member of the Timberwolves soccer team, he played in 48 career matches and tallied two goals and two assists on 14 shots. He was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team for 2021-22. He served as an assistant coach for both the boys' and girls' varsity squads at Midland (Mich.) High School during the 2023-24 school year. He has also served as a private coach, working with clients for the past four years. A native of Stafford, England, he captained Staffordshire County to the national final in England, where they were named co-winners due to the covid-19 pandemic. (July 2025)
