Andy Tompos
Head Coach
Tompos 69 assumed the helm of the Diplomats golf program in August 2008. Leading Diplomat golfers is old hat for Tompos, who captained the F&M golf team as a senior and was named captain emeritus. Formerly the top player in the F&M lineup, Tompos has served as an assistant coach since 2002 and volunteered for numerous years before his hiring. During his tenure, the Diplomats have captured the Centennial Conference Championship in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Tompos is a two-time Division III Middle Atlantic Region Coach of the Year (2015, 2016) and was named the Centennial Conference (CC) Coach of the Year on four occasions. He has guided F&M to six CC Championships since taking over the program in 2008, with F&M participating in six NCAA Championships and finishing as high as 12th. Five individual CC Champions were crowned during his tenure and four players earned All-America status since 2009. Last season, F&M won its third consecutive CC Championship and seventh in 10 years, tied for 12th at the NCAA Championships, placed two individuals in the NCAA top 10 and coached a pair of players to All-America status to conclude the Diplomats' banner year and further solidified their place as one of the nation's top programs. In 2015, the Diplomats won nine tournaments, which led the nation among all three divisions, dominated the Centennial Conference (CC) Championship, made their 10th NCAA appearance and placed 17th in the nation. F&M swept all the major awards at the CC Tournament and reset a handful of records along the way. The CC Crown was the seventh for the Diplomats, sixth in the last eight years and marked the program's 13th overall conference championship. F&M took the top spot with a record-breaking 30-stroke victory over McDaniel with a conference record 882 in the three-round tournament. In 2014, Tompos was named the CC Coach of the Year after leading F&M to its sixth CC Crown and fifth in the previous seven seasons. The Diplomats dominated the tournament as Dave Gilbert, Brad Lankler, and Robert Svigals became the first tri-champions in the history of the conference. In his life on the links, Tompos has won more than 25 golf tournaments, including the 1998 Lancaster Amateur, the 2000 Lancaster Senior Amateur, and the 2007 and 2008 Pennsylvania State Senior Publinks Amateur. He has also been a participant in the USGA Senior Amateur (2003), National Senior Hall of Fame (2004), and North-South Senior Amateur at Pinehurst (2006, 2007, 2008). In addition to his degree in Mathematics from F&M, Tompos has a Masters in Mathematics Education from Millersville University. He has spent 33 years in real estate and has been a professor at Stevens College of Technology. He published Analyzing Investment Properties, now in its second edition. Tompos resides in Lancaster County with his wife, Betty. They are the proud parents of daughters, Jessica and Sarah, and grandparents of Willi and Riley.
