Ben Delia
Head Coach
Delia enters his sixth year at the helm of the Franklin & Marshall men's and women's swimming programs in 2016-17. In his first four years at F&M, the Diplomats have produced 51 All-Centennial Conference (CC) Team recipients, while capturing 17 gold medals at the conference championship meet. Last year, the women's team completed its 14th-straight season with a record of .500 or better by earning five medals and taking third place at the 2016 Centennial Conference (CC) Championships. Delia also helped Becca Meyers '17 become the program's 123rd All-American and first since 2013 when she posted a time of 16:54.61 to take sixth place at the NCAA Division III Championships. The men's side won three dual meets during the year and scored 467.5 total points to earn fourth place out of seven schools at the CC Championships. In 2015, he guided the womens team to a second-place finish at the CC Championships, after the Diplomats won 12 medals, including four golds, while the men placed third out of seven teams. Bridget Dromerick swept the individual awards at the CC Champs, taking home the Most Outstanding Performer honor, as well as the Most Outstanding Rookie. She also competed at the NCAA Championships In Shenandoah, Texas, where she raced in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard freestyle, but was unable to qualify for any of the final races. Delia led the men to a fifth-place finish at the 2014 CC Championships and the womens team to a third-place showing. Under Delias guidance, Jillian Albus 17 was named the conferences Outstanding Rookie Swimmer at the event, while Katherine Grant competed at the NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive year. In 2013, Delia guided both the men and women to third-place finishes at the CC Championship meet, while Katie Grant became the first F&M female swimmer to earn All-America honors since 2010, claiming the nod in both the 500 and 1650 freestyle. Prior to coming to Lancaster, Delia spent the previous four years as the head women's swimming coach at Randolph-Macon College. At Randolph-Macon, Delias womens team finished second at the ODAC Championships each year and compiled a dual meet record of 27-12. Swimmers rewrote the record book 18 times, while the 2008-09 team set a program record for dual meet victories with 11. At the conference level, R-MC swimmers earned 30 All-ODAC selections, won 13 conference event championships and set 2 conference records. In 2011, Delia was named the ODAC Coach of the Year after his swimmers won 9 of 18 championship events and swept the conference postseason awards. Delia began his coaching career with a stint as assistant coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. after a successful four-year career at Hamilton College. As a student-athlete at Hamilton, Delia was a member of the All-NESCAC team and was a championship finalist on several occasions. Delia still competes as an elite amateur triathlete. He has earned USA Triathlon All-American honors on several occasions, and also finished in the top 100 at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2010. A native of Oswego, N.Y., Delia graduated from Hamilton in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a concentration in economics. He earned his Master's Degree in economics from Trinity College in 2007.
