Head Coach

Davis is in charge of recruiting and coaching the athletes in the event specialties of Sprints/Jumps/Hurdles/Multis & Javelin. During his time in Wichita, Davis has mentored over 100 KCAC Champions, qualified over 50 different athletes for the NAIA National Championships and developed 61 School Record Holders. As a team since his arrival in 2011-12 the Falcon women have won 7 out of a possible 10 Track and Field Team Titles and he has produced 21 All-Americans at the National Meet. Davis led several of his Falcons to broken records and personal bests during the 2016 indoor season. Sophomore Chelsea Baker (Pittsburg, KS) qualified for Nationals in the High, Long, and Triple Jump and brought home two 4th place All-American finishes at the National Meet in the High Jump (5'6") and Long Jump (18'6"). Sophomore Natali Engle saw gold all season long and finished the indoor season as the KCAC Champion in the 60, 200, 400, and 4x400. Natali went on to become the schools first 400M All-American with a 4th place finish at the National Meet (56.64). Senior Kaitlyn Keck (Haysville, KS) had another outstanding year re-breaking her school record in the Pentathlon with 3352 points which gave her a 7th place All-American finish at the National Meet. Keck was also named the KCAC Athlete of the meet, and the NAIA South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year. The Women's Team won the Indoor KCAC Championship Meet with a meet record of 250.5 points, the 2nd place team scored 93. The women went on to finish 17th as a team at the National Indoor Meet.  The Falcons continued their success into the outdoor season led by a talented group of underclassman. Baker continued her dominance by again qualifying in all 3 jumping events as well as the 100 Hurdles  she highlighted her sophomore season by bring home 2 more All-American plaques with a 7th place finish in the Triple Jump (38'3"), and a 5th place finish in the High Jump (5'6"). The womens 4x100 Team of Connor Reh, Abby Simon, Anika Ricks, and Natali Engle took home the conference title in meet record fashion (46.69), and went on to place 5th at the National Meet. Engle would also make history by bringing home 3 All-Americans at Nationals with a 7th place finish in the 100 (11.85), 5th in the 4x100, and 3rd in the 200 (24.21). Engle missed the finals of the 400m by 0.03 seconds. Kaitlyn Keck again made her statement on the final outdoor season of her career by setting school records and qualifying for Nationals in the Triple Jump (3811), Heptathlon (4703), and as the anchor of the 4x400 relay (3:52.4). Keck finished the year by placing 5 in the Heptathlon at the NAIA Outdoor National Meet in Gulf Shores, Alabama. 5th year senior Aubree Young brought home the final All-American of the outdoor season by getting 7th in the Javelin which gave her back to back All-Americans in the event to finish her career. The Lady Falcons finished the 2016 Outdoor Regular Season ranked 7th in the Country (150+ Teams) which is the highest in program history. The team finished in 10th place at the National meet with 23.5 points (most in school history). To add to their resume, the womens team broke the KCAC Conference record in most points scored by a single team with 297. The Falcons hosted the Outdoor Championships and tripled the score of the 2nd place team (Southwestern 99)   Starting his 6 year as the Head Womens Track and Field Coach, Davis continues to set incredibly high standards for his team. The womens squad has not placed lower than 3 in the Conference (12 Teams) at any KCAC Championship Track Meet during his time with Friends University and they have brought home 7 Conference Titles. The ladies finished the 2016 season with a Team GPA of 3.48. The Falcon women enter the 2017 Indoor season with aspirations of bringing home their 3rd straight Indoor Title and finishing Top 10 at the Indoor National Meet in Johnson City, Tennesse in early March.   Listed below are a few of his athletes stellar performances during the last few years. During her Freshman season in 2014 she set both the conference and school record in the 60m (7.69) and 100m (11.79) on her way to winning 3 individual conference titles and qualifying for Nationals in 4 events. Keck was a dominant force in the KCAC for 4 straight years scoring over 230 points in KCAC Championship Meets. She qualified for Nationals in the Indoor & Outdoor Triple Jump, Pentathlon, Heptathlon, 60 Hurdles, 100 Hurdles, and the Indoor and Outdoor 4x400 Relay. She has held school records in 7 different events, won individual conference titles in the 60H, 100H, 400H, 4x400, and Triple Jump, and was crowned the KCAC Athlete of the meet 3 different times. She produced 5 Top 10 finishes in the Multi-Events at the NAIA National Championships and brought home 2 All-Americans Baker put together one of the most decorated Freshman/Sophomore seasons by an athlete in KCAC History. Chelsea won the Indoor & Outdoor Conference titles in the High Jump setting school records in both. Baker has also hit the national standard in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 100 Hurdles. Baker as accumlated 5 All-American awards and holds school records in the High, Long, and Triple Jump Indoor. She highlighted her freshman season by jumping 57.25 at the Outdoor National meet to take the Runner-Up position. - Natali Engle had a breakout sophomore season setting school records in the Indoor 200, 400, and 4x400 and the Outdoor 100, 200, 400, 4x100, and 4x400. She did not lose a KCAC Race during her sophomore season bringing home 8 gold medals. Indoor she gained All-American Status in the 400m (56.64), and Outdoor she finished the season with All-American honors in the 100 (11.73), 200 (24.21), and 4x100 (46.67).   Before arriving at Friends University, Davis spent time as an assistant coach at both Pratt Community College and Pratt High School where he developed multiple state champions and national qualifiers during his short stay. Davis is a graduate of NCAA Division II Emporia State University where he competed in the Decathlon. He attained a Masters Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation with an emphasis in Coaching in 2014 and also completed his USA Track and Field Level 1 Coaching Certificate. Davis will be recieving a Strength and Conditioning Certification in the Summer of 2016. 2015 KCAC Indoor Coach of the Year 2015 KCAC Outdoor Coach of the Year 2016 KCAC Indoor Coach of the Year 2016 KCAC Outdoor Coach of the Year 2016 NAIA South Central Region Women's Indoor Coach of the Year 2016 NAIA South Central Region Women's Outdoor Coach of the year     2013 Indoor Runner-Up 2014 Indoor - 3RD 2014 Outdoor Runner-Up     Dennis Smithhisler has coached alongside his brother, Damian, for seven years including two stints at Kapuan Mt. Carmel (2004-2006, 2010). Smithhisler competed in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference at Southwestern College and was a five-time All-American as well as a member of two National Champion Indoor Relay Teams. He anchored the DMR and also ran a sub 1.54 split on the 4X800. Smithhisler still holds school records for the Moundbuilders in the steeplechase and several distance relays. He ran a 9:01.56 to place 3rd at Nationals in the steeplechase. After college, Smithhisler earned a Master's Degree in Communication from Wichita State University while continuing to run on his own. Smithhisler now teaches at Butler Community College and competes as a masters athlete in local track and road races, running for the Wichita based GoRun Team. This past summer, he hit a lifetime PR of 200 miles in a single week. Manny Aceves, a Graduate of Friends University has returned to the Falcons as the Throws Coach beginning with the 2016 Outdoor Season. Aceves was a KCAC Champion and National Qualifier in the Discus in 2014 and will be working with athletes in the Shot, Disc, Weight, and Hammer Throw. during the 2016 Outdoor Season Aceves mentored Mike Gallagher to the KCAC title in the Discus and helped Abby Belt qualify for the National Meet in the Hammer Throw with a new School Record over 150'.  Eathan Pearson, a graduate of Wichita State University has completed his 1st year of Collegiate Coaching. Pearson was a 17' vaulter for the Shockers and spent the 2016 season working with the Falcon Vaulters. Pearson mentored Freshman Naomi Bader to the Outdoor Conference Title, and helped Kyle Helberg set a person best while acheiving 2rd place in the Outdoor KCAC Championships.  Dylan Biedron, a 2016 Graduate of Friends University is now entering his 2nd season as a volunteer assistant with the Falcons. Biedron was a decathlete and jumps specialist and will continue to work with the Falcon Jumpers during the 2016-17 season. During 2016 Biedron helped with the development of 5 different KCAC Champions and mentored 3 different athletes who qualified for Nationals in their respective events.  Kaitlyn Keck, a 2016 Graduate of Friends University will be starting her Masters Degree with Wichita State University and also helping the Friends Program as a Volunteer Assistant specializing in the Hurdles, Jumps, and Multi's. Keck finished her career as the All-Time leading point scorer in Friends University Track and Field History.
