Justin Anderson

Head Coach

Anderson enters his fourth year as the head coach of the Frostburg State University swimming teams in 2016-17. Anderson continued his success in his third season at the helm as year was highlighted by sophomore Christion March earning the programs first ever CAC Honors. March finished second in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes at the CAC Championships to earn Second Team honors. March also broke his own records in those events with times of 56.36 (100 yard) and 2:03.36 (200 yard) and earned NCAA Provisional cut times in both events. March also collected a record in the 50-yard free (21.35) and freshman Sidney Horton broke the schools 100-yard IM record (58.44). Both teams swam to the highest number of points at the CAC Championships in program history as the women finished sixth with 282 points while the men finished sixth with 236 points. Anderson coached a program-record seven ECAC qualifiers including two swimmers, March and freshman Maddie Weinberger to ECAC Championship finals in two events. On the womens side, Anderson led the team to 10 school records, including five by sophomore Macey Nitchie. Nitchie broke records in the 50-yard free (24.50), 100-yard free (53.17), 200-yard free (1:54.98), the 500-yard free (5:20.69) and the 200-medley relay (1:53.68). Freshman Maddie Weinberger broke school records in the 50 (30.56) 100 (1:06.34) and the 200-yard breaststrokes (2:25.93), the 100-yard IM (1:04.49) as well as the 200-medley relay team of freshman Emily Turner, Weinberger, senior Chrissy Alessandrini and Nitchie. Turner broke a record in the 50-yard backstroke (29.02). Anderson also guided the women to their first .500 season in over a decade. Anderson capped his third season guiding sophomore Zach Shattuck break 30 class SB6 Paralympic American Records in short-course and long-course meters and yards distances. This summer, he coached Shattcuk at the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials where Shattuck swam to four gold medal finishes. In Andersons second season with the Bobcats, he led both the mens and womens squads to the most successful finishes at the CAC Championships in Frostburg history; both the men and women finished sixth. He guided the women to breaking five school records; including three individual records by freshman Macey Nitchie. Nitchie broke records in the 50-yard freestyle (24.79), 100-yard freestyle (53.79) and 200-yard freestyle (1:56.07). The 200-yard medley relay team of Macey Nitchie, Sara King, Jaclyn Franzak and Kaitlyn Donch recorded a new record of 1:54.24; breaking the record held from the previous year. The 400-yard medley relay of Nitchie, Maci Qunitanilla, Donch and Franzak broke the school record in 4:10.00. On the mens side Anderson coached freshman Christina March to record breaking performances in the 100-yard breaststroke (57:61.) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.23). Anderson ended his record breaking season by sending four individuals (March, Nitchie, Donch and Jon Shepard) and two womens relay teams to the ECAC Championships. Both the womens 200-yard and 400-yard medley relay teams captured Frostburgs first-ever points at ECACs earning ninth-place finishes.   In his first season at the helm, Anderson guided the womens team to seven wins, both squads captured sixth place at the CAC Championships and Anderson was named the CACs Womens Co-Coach of the Year. For the second-consecutive season, the foursome of Kaitlyn Donch, Jaclyn Franzak, Meredith Johnson and Maci Quintanilla set the school record in the 200-yard medley relay. To cap the season, both Donch and Jonathan Shepard represented the Bobcats at the ECAC Championships.   Anderson came to Frostburg after a pair of coaching stints at Trinity College (Conn.) and the University of Mary Washington (Va.).   Anderson served on the Trinity coaching staff as an assistant since August 2011. He headed the program's recruiting efforts and implemented practice plans.  He helped recruit the first-ever male swimmer to achieve NCAA provisional qualifying times in multiple events and he guided the women's team to their highest GPA in program history and the tenth highest GPA in the nation. He also assisted the aquatics director with planning and coordinating the facility schedule and lifeguard coverage. He coached the Bantams to over 200 personal best times, 29 varsity school records, 12 first-year records and six NCAA provisional qualifying performances.   A 2010 graduate of the University of Mary Washington, Anderson served as an assistant at his alma mater in 2010-11 where he coached some of the top athletes at the Division III national level.  He outlined and implemented daily practices, assisted in recruiting efforts and aided in the recruitment of the program's first-ever U.S. Open qualifying swimmer.   He helped the UMW swimmers establish nine team records, eight Capital Athletic Conference records, with two NCAA automatic qualifying times and 15 NCAA provisional marks. Anderson helped two of the Eagle swimmers to 2011 NCAA Championship All-American honors and he was part of the CAC Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.   As a student at Mary Washington, Anderson competed as a sprint/middle-distance freestyler, breaststroker, and IM'er. He was a two-time Scholar All-American for the Eagles, three-time conference record holder and the Mary Washington and Capital Athletic Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2010.   A captain and four-year letter winner, Anderson racked up numerous awards as a member of the UMW team, including 22 all-conference awards, 12 conference championships and team MVP honors. He also gained NCAA Championship-provisional qualifying standards three times during his career.   Anderson earned his bachelor's degree from UMW in May '10. He was a six-time Dean's List student and graduated with a 3.68 G.P.A. in English. He earned his masters degree in English for writing, rhetoric and media arts from Trinity College in May 13.

Rebecca Yost

Assistant Coach

Yost is in her second year as a graduate assistant with the Frostburg State University men and womens swimming teams. In her first year with Frostburg State Yost assisted both the womens and mens squads to the most successful season in program history. She helped both squads place earn the most points in Bobcat history at the CAC Championships as well as qualify seven athletes for the ECAC Championships. Yost also helped the program earn its first ever CAC Second Team honoree and guided the both teams to a combined 10 school records. Yost comes to Frostburg after recently graduating from Virginia Tech in May 2015 with a bachelors degree in business management and entrepreneurship and a minor in communications. While attending Virginia Tech she was an eight-time Deans List student, and graduated Manga Cum Laude. In high school, Yost was a 4-year Virginia All-State Swimmer and the Chantilly High School 100 breaststroke record holder. In her senior year, she was captain of her high school swim team, and placed seventh in the state in the 100 breaststroke. Yost also swam for her club team Machine Aquatics, where she was a member of their 2011 Junior National Team. Over the past several years, Yost has served as the Assistant Head Coach of the Greenbriar Dolphins, and the Operations Intern at Virginia Amateur Sports.

James Martin

Assistant Coach

Martin is in his second year as a graduate assistant with the Frostburg State University mens and womens swimming teams in 2015-16. In his first year with Frostburg State Martin assisted both the womens and mens squads to one of their most successful seasons in FSU history. He helped both squads place the highest and earn the most points in Bobcat history at the CAC Championships as well as earn FSUs first ever points at the ECAC Championships.   Martin comes to Frostburg after a standout swimming career at NCAA Division I St. Bonaventure University from 2010-14. Martin served as team captain as a senior and helped the Bonnies to a pair of Atlantic-10 Championships in each of his final two seasons. He was the A-10 Champion and league record holder in the 50-meter freestyle.   Martin, who competed in the 2012 USA Olympic Trials in the 50, 100 and 200-meter freestyles, was a five-time Deans List student and an All-Academic A-10 selection. In his final season in 2013-14, he was the Letterwinner Award recipient given to the senior student-athlete that is most influential the teams success.   Over the last several years, Martin has served as head coach of the Bristol Splash Swim Team, assistant swim coach at the Hartford Golf Club and athletic training intern at St. Bonaventure.   Martin graduated with his bachelors degree in human development and movement from St. Bonaventure University in May 2014.
