TB

Tee Burton

Head Coach

Burtons expertise and experience paid immediate dividends as the Runnin Bulldog mens golf team posted four top-six finishes and the womens team added with three top-five finishes in his very first year at Gardner-Webb. In only his second year on the job, during the fall of 2001, Burton guided the GWU mens team to the 2001 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Title, marking it the third national championship for the program. Following the team's victory, Burton was named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year. Since Gardner-Webb made the transition to the NCAA Division I in the 2000-01 season, Coach Burton has tutored 13 All-Conference honorees, highlighted by Daniel Kims four-time Big South All-Conference recognition, which puts him as one of only nine male golfers in the history of the Big South Conference to receive all-conference recognition all four years during his intercollegiate career, and three All-Freshman Team recipients. Burton has also had a total of 21 golfers earn Big South Golfer of the Week honors since GWU joined the League in 2008-09, while his womens teams have earned three Big South Conference Team Sportsmanship Awards (2009, 2011, 2012) and his mens team one (2011). Burton has also seen eight total and at least one member of both the men and womens golf teams earn a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team over the last five seasons.  Both Scott Wheeler and Katie Garahan also went on to receive the highest academic honor by the Big South, as both were tabbed the respective Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for their sport. Wheeler earned this honor on the mens side in 2009-10, while Garahan received the award on the womens side the previous year in 2008-09. Following the 2005-06 season, Claudine Foong and Garahan were both named to the All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the National Golf Coaches' Association, while after the completion of the 2003-04 campaign, Rory McCaughna and Steve McDonald were honored as two of 86 NCAA Division I men's golfers to be named as Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars as announced by the Golf Coaches' Association of America. From the time when Burton returned to Cleveland County, the Runnin Bulldogs have continued to excel each and every season on the links. Burton has had both his men and womens teams combine to post over 100 top-five team finishes since his first year in 2000-01, as well as claim team victories in over 25 tournaments. During his collegiate career at North Carolina, Burton was a two-time all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection, an All-American and was honored as one of 51 golfers named to the league's All-50th Anniversary Team, joining the likes of Arnold Palmer, Davis Love III and other all-time greats. Following his collegiate career, Burton was a regular on several professional tours and competed at the PGA Tour Qualifying School on seven occasions.  The former Cleveland County Amateur Champion was an All-State performer at nearby Crest H.S. In his first prep match, Burton earned mention in Faces in the Crowd section after posting a four-hole feat of two eagles and two birdies. Still able to shoot in the low to mid-60's on a regular basis, Burton is known as an exceptional teacher and relates tremendously well with young players. A member of the Cleveland County Sports Hall of Fame, Burton and his wife Amanda reside in Shelby, N.C. The couple has two sons, Trey and Reed.   * 13 All-Conference honorees * Three All-Freshman recipients * 17 Big South Men and Women Golfers of the Week (since 2008) *  Eight Big South All-Academic Team members (sine 2008) * Two Big South Scholar-Athletes of the Year * Two NGCA All-American Scholar-Athletes * Two Cleveland Golf All-American Scholars (GCAA) * Has had his women's golf team win the Big South Team Sportsmanship Award four times (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013) * Competed at the PGA Tour Qualifying School * A regular on several professional tours * Two-time All-American (1990, 1991) * Two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference * Honored as one of 51 golfers named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-50th Anniversary Team
