Tom Contenta
Head Coach
Head Coach - Tom Contenta Coach Contenta was named the Head Football Coach on January 28, 2026, taking over for 33-year Head Coach Geno DeMarco. Beginning his coaching career at Geneva in 2007, the former standout player for the Golden Tornadoes quickly climbed his way up the coaching ladder and became one of DeMarco's top assistants. He most recently served as the program's Defensive Coordinator, coaching defensive backs as well. Formerly one of Geneva's most competitive players on a defense that led the team to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national championship series, Contenta has now become one of the most relentless recruiters in the region. Contenta has taken the Golden Tornado marketing strategy to a new level, bringing in some of the largest recruiting classes in program history. His example of work ethic is classic and his passion for Geneva College is unsurpassed. Along with his football duties, Coach Contenta is also an instructor in the physical education department at Geneva. From 2002-2005 Contenta roamed the Geneva secondary as a defensive back. His stellar career was capped by earning four letters, All-Conference, and NCCAA All-American honors. Contenta graduated from Geneva College with a Bachelor's degree in Youth Ministry in 2006. After graduation, Contenta began his coaching career at his high school alma mater, New Brighton, in 2006. Tommy and his wife Chelsea reside in Beaver with their children Ethan, Isaiah and Blakelynn. Jason Wargo
Assistant Coach
Jason Wargo returned to Geneva in the spring of 2025 to take over the offensive coordinator position for the Golden Tornadoes, his third stint as an assistant with the program. Wargo graduated from Geneva in 1995 after a strong player as an offensive lineman for the Golden Tornadoes. He was also a thrower for the Geneva track and field team. Wargo began his first stint as an assistant football coach in 2000, his first of two prior tenures with the football program over the next 15 years. He was primarily responsible for the offensive line and tight ends during those stretches. He also served as the associate head coach for the track and field program during one of those stints, as well as serving as a physical fitness instructor. After leaving Geneva in 2014, Wargo spent six years as a coach in the Franklin Area High School football program, serving as an offensive coordinator, a defensive coordinator and a special teams coordinator at various times. He also served as the Franklin Head Track and Field Coach for three seasons. Most recently, Wargo worked as the Head Football Coach at Maplewood High School from 2022-24, guiding the program to two playoff berths. Will Edgar
Assistant Coach
Will Edgar was hired as Geneva's Defensive Coordinator in the spring of 2026, taking over for Tommy Contenta who was promoted to Head Coach after the 2025 season. Edgar is a familiar face for the Golden Tornadoes after he served as a graduate assistant in the program two years ago. A native of Washington, Pennsylvania, Edgar graduated from Waynesburg in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration before beginning his graduate studies at Geneva in 2023 in higher education. "I'm excited to be back working with a lot of familiar faces," says Edgar. "I think Geneva is a special place where we get to invest as coaches in our players both on and off the field, and I can't wait to get to work developing the identity that Coach Contenta has established on defense over the years." Edgar began his coaching career while still in college, with stints at both Brownsville High School and Waynesburg Central High School over a three-year stretch from 2020 through 2022. During those two roles, he served as both the defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, while he also helped oversee the offensive and defensive lines. In his prior stint at Geneva, Edgar coached the defensive backs and safeties in 2023, and in 2024 he oversaw the defensive line while also serving as a quality control coach. Prior to the 2025 football season, Edgar was hired away by Hampden-Sydney College to be a full-time football assistant, coaching the defensive line while also serving as the video coordinator and assistant recruiting coordinator. "Will Edgar is the perfect hire for us at Defensive Coordinator because of his ability to strengthen and elevate overall performance on the field," says Contenta. "Beyond his knowledge of strategy and leadership, he has a proven ability to connect with student-athletes in meaningful ways. He is committed to mentoring them not only as players, but as individuals while instilling character, integrity and faith-based values. Our goal is to build a defense that reflects both competitive excellence and Christ-centered principles."
