Chuck Scheinost

Head Coach

Scheinost (SHY-knowst), who was named to the position on July 31, 2013, brings nearly a decade of collegiate golf coaching experience to Foggy Bottom, most recently as head men's golf coach at the University of Northern Colorado for six seasons from 2007-13. "Chuck is an up-and-coming coach who has proven he can build a golf program by mentoring and attracting quality golfers and student-athletes," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "We're confident that Chuck will bring the program consistent success in the Atlantic 10 Conference while producing student-athletes who succeed both on and off the course." At Northern Colorado, Coach Scheinost transformed the Bears from a new NCAA Division I program into a consistent contender for the America Sky Golf Conference championship, including three consecutive top-3 finishes from 2008-11 and top-5 showings in each of the past five seasons. Coach Scheinost mentored eight America Sky All-Conference selections, including 2010 league Player of the Year Steve Bidne, as well as five America Sky All-Tournament performers, a pair of league Freshmen of Year, and 15 Academic All-Conference honorees during his six seasons at UNC. "I am extremely honored and excited to be selected to take the George Washington golf program into the future," said Coach Scheinost. "GW has the potential to become a golf power in the Atlantic 10 Conference. From the history and culture of a vibrant city, to a great golfing community with fantastic courses, I believe that recruits will be naturally drawn to GW. This, combined with the university's commitment and vision for George Washington Athletics, will provide us with every opportunity to accomplish this goal. I'm looking forward to the responsibility of taking this program forward and turning our golfers into mature young men who will leave as positive representatives of our GW community." Prior to his tenure at Northern Colorado, Coach Scheinost served as assistant coach at Northern Illinois University from 2005-07, helping land the 2007 Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year while coaching two All-MAC performers, a MAC All-Tournament performer and a trio of MAC All-Academic and Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America Scholars. Coach Scheinost began his collegiate coaching career as assistant men's and women's golf coach at Lenoir-Rhyne College (N.C.) during the 2004-05 season. The Bears' women's team peaked at 16th nationally in the NCAA Division II rankings during that season, and Coach Scheinost tutored five All-South Atlantic Conference golfers, including an SAC Player of the Year, and seven SAC All-Academic Team selections. A four-year letterwinner for the men's golf team at Hastings (Neb.) College, Coach Scheinost earned his bachelor's degree in media production with a minor in athletic training/coaching from Hastings in 2004. He was an NAIA Scholar-Athlete selection in 2003 and earned four Golden Leaf Awards from the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association for television news and sports reporting. He went on to earn a master's degree in sports management at Northern Illinois in 2006.
