Browning too GW's women's squad deep into the 2016 A-10 Championship, advancing to the semifinal round as the seventh seed after upsetting second-seeded Massachusetts in the quarterfinals. Browning also led GW's men's team to its fifth Atlantic 10 title in the last six seasons en route to the league's Coach of the Year nod. Browning coached eight student-athletes to A-10 All-Conference honors in 2016. Browning joined the George Washington men's and women's tennis programs as Associate Head Coach prior to the 2014-15 season. Coach Browning, who was a four-time Missouri Valley All-Conference selection at Wichita State, comes to GW after spending five years with the Norfolk State men's and women's tennis programs in Norfolk, Virginia. Coach Browning joined the Colonials squads after serving as assistant coach for the Norfolk State men's and women's tennis programs from 2009-2013, where she was promoted to associate head coach of the women's team for the 2013-14 season. Throughout her time at Norfolk State, Coach Browning helped the men's team to its first appearance in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship finals and secure 14 wins, the most in program history, during the 2014 season. She coached the 2014 MEAC Player of the Year as well as the 2012 and 2013 MEAC Rookies of the Year, and also helped guide the Spartans to their first ever MEAC Southern Division Conference title in 2013. With the women's program, Coach Browning saw the first player earn a spot on an all-conference team since 2009 and led the squad to its first MEAC Championship appearance in three seasons. Prior to her stint at Norfolk State, Coach Browning was a standout four-year letterwinner and a four-time MVC All-Conference honoree at Wichita State. Throughout her collegiate career, Coach Browning compiled an overall singles record of 100-54, ranking fourth all-time in singles victories at the university, and a doubles mark of 57-41. The two-year captain posted winning singles records in every season and had 20-plus victories during her freshman (24), sophomore (22) and senior (27) campaigns. Coach Browning helped the Shockers achieve their highest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking in school history when they reached No. 16 during the spring of 2007, and guided the team to three NCAA Team Championship appearances in 2006, 2007 and 2009. Excelling off the court, Coach Browning was named an ITA Scholar Athlete and earned a spot on the MVC Scholar Athlete First Team as a senior. She was awarded the ITA Central Region Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership and represented Wichita State at the NCAA Leadership Conference. Coach Browning was also a member of the Shockers' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as the representative to the MVC SAAC. A native of Tucson, Arizona, Coach Brown graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in integrated marketing communications and a minor in sociology. Aita. "I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to join a top-level Division I program at GW. The coaching staff has done a truly splendid job in the past years, and I am excited to learn from them and ultimately help the student-athletes have a great GW experience both on and off the courts." As a student-athlete, Aita led the Seahawks to three Colonial Athletic Association conference titles from 2011-14 while playing at the No. 1 singles spot during those seasons. The Pimentel, Peru, native was named CAA Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014 and earned All-Conference First Team honors for singles a trio of times while garnering that same honor twice for doubles play. The CAA's 2014 Most Outstanding Performer, Aita served as team captain in 2013 and 2014 and graduated as UNCW's most decorated men's tennis player in program history. On the national stage, Aita played in two NCAA Singles Tournaments and four NCAA Team Tournaments throughout his tenure as a Seahawk. Alongside UNCW partner Sam Williams, Aita won the ITA Carolina Regional Championship in 2013, and the duo was ranked as high as No. 14 in the ITA national doubles rankings, while Aita was ranked as high as No. 17 in solo play. Internationally, Aita represented Peru in the 2014 Davis Cup during his senior year. "I have been fortunate to have had two very strong assistant coaches in Rodrigo Briceno and Philippe Oudshoorn who were each able to help GW win two Atlantic 10 titles," said Head Coach Munoz. "Rafa brings a passion for the game and strong playing skills that will push the guys on the court and has the experience of competing at the No. 1 spot for a perennial NCAA qualifier in UNCW."
