Pat Conlan
Head Coach
Conlan Position: Head Coach Pat Conlan is entering her 10th season as the Georgetown Softball Head Coach and her 21st year of collegiate coaching experience, serving as the program's first and only head coach. Conlan transformed the club team into a Division I program in 2006 and will guide the Hoyas into their seventh season of play in the BIG EAST in 2015. The Hoyas set a program record in 2014 with 26 wins, finishing with a 26-22 overall record and a 12-8 mark in BIG EAST play, earning the No. 3 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. Four student-athletes were named to post-season All-BIG EAST team, led by senior Elyse Graziano's nod to the first team. Junior Megan Hyson was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)) Division I All-Region Team. The softball team also excelled in the classroom as 12 Hoyas were named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. In 2013, the Hoyas finished 21-33 and 10-12 in the BIG EAST Conference, in the program's fifth season of BIG EAST Softball. The 21 wins tied the Hoyas' previous total which was established in 2008. Conlan led the team to a program-high nine home wins in their 15 total home games. In 2012, Conlan led the Hoyas to a 19-32 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the BIG EAST. Georgetown's 19 wins are the second most in program history. Conlan helped then-freshman Megan Hyson earn NFCA Second Team All-Regional. Conlan led the Hoyas to 13-40 overall and 6-12 in the BIG EAST during the 2011 season. The Hoyas finished tenth in the BIG EAST. In addition, Conlan brought five freshmen to the program for the 2012 season, including 2011 All-Met Baltimore Player of the Year Megan Hyson. In 2010, Conlan guided the team through their second season as a member of the BIG EAST, leading the Hoyas to an 18-33 overall record with a 7-15 mark in conference play, including sweeping a doubleheader against Syracuse on April 2. The team also defeated USF on Senior Day, May 9, sending out the program's first recruiting class on top. Conlan continued to help the maturation of sophomore Mackensey Carter, who earned All-BIG EAST second team honors. Conlan led Georgetown into the BIG EAST in 2009, guiding the team to an 8-14 conference record and 11th place finish. The Hoyas adjusted quickly to the competition, going 8-6 against conference opponents after April 1 and ending its season with a doubleheader sweep of St. John's. Conlan helped freshman pitcher Mackensey Carter develop into an All-BIG EAST third team selection, the first conference honor the Hoyas received. The Hoyas continued to grow under Conlan during the 2007-08 season, winning a team record 21 games, nearly doubling their previous season-high (12) in victories. It also marked Conlan's second recruiting class, as six freshmen each played a role in the success of the young team. Several members of Conlan's first recruiting class continued to develop, as shortstop Samantha Peters earned All-Independent Player of the Year honors. IF Demetria Cipriano earned All-Independent First-Team honors, while RHP Jennifer Connell earned All-Independent honorable mention. The 2006-07 season marked Conlan's first recruiting class, with the six freshman paying immediate dividends, as five became full-time starters. Among them, Conlan helped mold shortstop Samantha Peters into an All-Independent Top Newcomer selection, helping the team achieve their first post-season individual honor. The team tripled its win total from the previous season, going 12-41 In the inaugural season of softball on the Hilltop, Conlan led the squad to a 4-23 record. The program had a number of firsts - the program's first hit on the program's first at bat, the first win - a 7-2 victory over Coppin State, the first shutout (3-0 over George Mason) and a doubleheader sweep over Coppin State. In her previous 13 years of coaching, Conlan has proven a success with each program she has been associated. In 2005, her final season at NC State, she guided the Wolfpack to a 41-25 record, helping pitcher Abbie Sims earn All-ACC and All-South Region honors. As an assistant coach at NC State, Conlan gained experience in all phases of a Division I program in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Her duties included recruiting coordinator, budget preparation, NCAA Compliance, team travel, practice, game-planning, training and community service. In her two seasons with the Pack, she was instrumental in the success off a pitching staff that compiled a 1.71 ERA, holding opposition to a .199 batting average, while recording 491 strikeouts in 227.1 innings pitched in 2005. The staff posted a 2.10 ERA, with 456 strikeouts and a .225 opponents' batting average in 399 1/3 innings pitched in 2004. Conlan spent the six seasons, prior to her tenure at NC State, at her alma mater, the University of Connecticut, where she helped the Huskies finish in second and third place in the BIG EAST Conference in the 2000 and 2001 seasons, respectively. In 2001 she was a member of the National Fastpitch Coaching Association Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year, after directing the team to the BIG EAST Championship. During her career, Conlan also served, for three seasons, as the head softball coach at Fairfield University, a position she gained after assisting for one year. As the head coach at Fairfield, Conlan helped the Stags to a runner-up finish in the 1997 MAAC Tournament and the program's first winning season since 1988. As a player at UConn, Conlan led the Huskies to a fifth-place finish in the 1993 Womens' College World Series. She earned All-American status and was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, first team All-BIG EAST, All-New England, All-ECAC and All-Northeast. In four years as a player, her teams captured four BIG EAST Tournament titles, while she compiled a 55-17 career record. Conlan also set school records for wins in a season (26), shutouts in a season (14), complete games (26) and consecutive innings without allowing an earned run (73.2). Her 1993 ERA of .33 ranked second nationally as she allowed just 11 earned runs in 231.1 innings. Conlan earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Connecticut in 1993.
