Dustin Wood

Head Coach

Wood led the Eagles to a Southern Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tourney appearance in his first campaign at Georgia Southern, which was also his first season as the head coach of a womens program. He now owns a 45-48 record in three years at Georgia Southern. The 2013 season saw the Eagles capture the SoCon regular-season championship as well, and the squads 28 wins tied for the most in a season in school history. Jamie DeRatt and Kym Coley earned first-team all-league honors while Kat Minnerly garnered recognition on the second team. DeRatt was named MVP of the SoCon Tournament, while Coley and Katie Bange got the nod on the all-tourney squad. A 10-year volleyball coaching veteran, Wood came to Georgia Southern in the summer of 2012 from George Mason, where he spent the previous three seasons two as an assistant coach on the women's staff and one as an assistant coach on the mens staff. As the recruiting coordinator on the women's staff from 2011-12, Wood helped recruit five freshman who all started for the Patriots in 2012. He helped coach three All-Colonial Athletic Association selections, including two-time honoree outside hitter Lana Zonjic, who earned third-team honors in 2011 and second-team accolades in 2012. Wood also aided in freshman Lolade Owokoniran's development en route to an All-Rookie team nod in 2012. He was responsible for directing and assisting with match preparation, scouting, planning practice and defensive systems and blocking schemes. He recruited five Fab 50 recruits while on the men's staff under coach Fred Chao and was instrumental in leading the team to the EIVA Semifinals and garnering a number of All-EIVA selections for Mason players. Wood was selected the head coach of the USA Boys Youth Select Continental Team, which took the Bronze Medal at the USA High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz., in 2012. Wood spent six seasons as a coach at East Stroudsburg University and served as the head coach of the Division I men's program from 2006-09. He led the Warriors to EIVA quarterfinal and NCAA Division I Tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007. After a redshirt season at Ohio State, Wood transferred to East Stroudsburg, where he embarked on a four-year playing career as an outside hitter. He was a three-time captain while leading the team in kills in three seasons. After earning a bachelors degree in elementary education in 2003, Wood began working as a coach at East Stroudsburg, serving as both an assistant coach with the womens team and the associate head coach of the men's team. He was promoted to head coach of the mens program in 2005. Dustin and his wife, Shannon, reside in Pooler, with their daughter, Etta. Dustin Wood File
