David Giambra
Coach
Giambra Diving Coach David Giambra enters his fourth season as head diving coach with the Eagle swimming and diving program. In his third season with the Eagles, Georgia Southern qualified two divers for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship meet for the first time in school history. Senior Sara Meisenhelder finished her illustrious career by scoring 27 points at the CCSA Championship while sophomore Emma Weisel broke the 3-meter school record in the finals to finish fourth in the event. In the dual meet season, Georgia Southern was able to pick up victories against ECU, College of Charleston, Radford, Liberty and North Florida. In his second season with the Eagles, Giambra facilitated one of the most successful diving performances in program history. At the 2013 CCSA Championships, Meisenhelder finished second in the three-meter dive as well as third in the one-meter dive. Weisel added a podium spot, finishing third in the three-meter dive after qualifying for finals as the number six seed. Meisenhelder also qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships for the second consecutive year after a school-record shattering one-meter performance of 281.70 against Darton at the Recreation Activity Center and is the only Eagle to ever compete at Zones. In his first year at GSU, he helped Meisenhelder become the first diver in school history to qualify for NCAA Zones with school record-breaking scores of 263.25 on the 1-meter board and 290.05 on the 3-meter board. Meisenhelder was named the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Diver of the Year at the league's championship meet. A four-year letterwinner at Clemson University, Giambra achieved numerous top-3 finishes against ACC competition during his career. Winner of the Coaches' Award during the 2008-09 season, he holds school records in the one-meter, three-meter and platform diving events.
