James Moore

Head Coach

Moore recently completed his 11th year at the helm of the Georgian Court soccer program. Under his leadership the Lions have emerged as a perennial power in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.   GCU completed its tenth straight winning season and tenth straight trip into the CACC postseason tournament. The Lions finished the 2015 season with an overall record of 15-3-2 and went 11-0-1 in CACC action, on their way to the CACC regular season title. Coach Moore was awarded the BSN CACC Coach of the Year award. Moore is 95-41-13 in all CACC competitions since arriving at Georgian Court.   The GCU soccer squad defied the odds in 2010 with a dynamic run through the CACC playoffs, resulting in the program's third straight finals appearance and second CACC title, this time as the #6 seed. With the victory, the Lions (11-9-2) earned their second-ever trip to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.   In 2008, Coach Moore led the squad to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing the season 12-7-5 and ranking in the East region Top 10 for the third year in a row. The season was highlighted by an impressive 15 game unbeaten streak (11-0-4) that included a stunning 1-0 upset of eventual East Regional Finalist University of Bridgeport.   Moore serves as the Chair of the CACC coaches committee, a member of the NCAA East Regional committee. He has been a member of the NSCAA East Regional Poll committee since 2005. He will begin a four year term as the Chair of the East Regional Selection Committee and serve on the NCAA National Committee in the fall of 2016.   Jim took over at Georgian Court prior to the 2005 season and immediately begun the process of rebuilding the once proud program. After struggling to a 2-14-1 season in 2005, he returned in 2006 with eleven new players and led the team to an 11-7-3 record. The 8.5 game improvement was the largest in the nation in 2006. For this, Coach Moore was named the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year. In 2007 the team won a school NCAA record of 14 games and appeared in the ECAC Championship game.   Since he has taken over the GCU program he has recruited and developed 25 All- CACC players, Nine CCA All East Region players, six NSCAA All East Region players and four CCA All- Americans.   Along with coaching at Georgian Court, Moore is a Senior Staff Member and Director of Goalkeeping at Toms River FC where he trains various youth teams and is charged with developing the organizations goaltenders.  Moore also serves as Assistant to the Associate Director of Athletics for the university. He was also the recipient of the GCU student services Outstanding Service award for the 2008/2009 academic year.   Before coming to Georgian Court, Moore served as an assistant coach at Bryant University for six seasons. While at Bryant, Moore played a crucial role in turning around a Bulldog program which had not posted a winning season since 1993, helping the team earn its first national ranking and first NCAA Tournament bid in 2001. Bryant won 48 games in four seasons from 2001 to 2004, while Moore was on the staff.   A 1996 graduate of Providence College, Moore made his first foray into coaching soon after; obtaining an assistant womens coaching position at his alma mater in 1998. While at Providence, Moore served as a student assistant on the 1993 team that won the Big East Championship and went to the Sweet 16 in the National Tournament.   Moore has earned both a National and Advanced National License from the NSCAA and has been a member of that organization since 1993.   Originally from Melville, NY, Moore and his wife, Kate currently reside in Burlington, New Jersey with their daughter, Meghan, son, Patrick, and daughter, Bridget.

Farrell Pomponio-Strout

Assistant Coach

Farrell Pomponio-Strout Assistant Coach | 6th Season  Farrell Pomponio-Strout began her first season as Georgian Court University women’s soccer team assistant coach in 2021-22 and enters her sixth season as assistant coach in 2026, but GCU is hardly unfamiliar territory.  As a former Lion herself, Farrell has returned to the very pitch she played on to assist her former head coach, James Moore, on the sidelines. Farrell has been involved in coaching from a young age. Before bringing her knowledge and passion for the game to the college level, she has worked with multiple clubs across New Jersey as a head trainer and coach. Farrell brings with her a vast understanding of the game, not just as a successful coach, but as a player on both the collegiate and post-collegiate level. She played in the WPSL semi-professional league before advancing to the UWS pro-am league where she currently plays for NJ Copa FC. Farrell has also played professional futsal. In 2023, Farrell was chosen for the U.S. Select team while earning an appearance vs. the Argentinian National Team. As a former high-level collegiate student-athlete, Farrell brings a relatability to the current Georgian Court squad. Farrell, a starter since her freshman season, led the the Lions to the 2009 CACC regular-season title and earned selection to the CACC All-Tournament team for her stellar play. She went on to achieve team MVP honors in 2011, complementing her All-CACC First Team accolade that year. She also received All-CACC Honorable Mention the following campaign. Knowing what it’s like to overcome adversity as an athlete is an additional attribute Farrell brings as a member of the coaching staff. During her college playing career, she suffered a spine injury which led to two surgeries. Although it took tremendous dedication and commitment, she worked her way back to playing the sport she loves. Her final season was 2014, earning a degree in psychology and art in the spring of 2015.
