Mike Hoyt

Associate Head Coach

Hoyt enters his sixth full season with Gettysburg College football in 2023. Hoyt, who arrived on campus in the spring of 2018, added Associate Coach to his duties as Defensive Coordinator. He is responsible for the linebacking corps within his defensive scheme.Additionally, he serves as coordinator of the athletics programs strength and conditioning program. Hoyt has coached six all-conference performers on the defensive side of the ball. In 2018, defensive lineman Logan Aikey 19 set a program record with 18.5 tackles for a loss, including nine sacks on the way to All-Centennial Conference Honorable Mention and Academic All-District accolades. The following year, defensive lineman Alex Raimondo 22 and safety Justin Lessel 21 were named to the all-conference team with the former racking up 14 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks and the latter managing four interceptions and eight pass break-ups. Raimondo reprised his spot on the all-conference team in 2021, garnering first-team honors after 18 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks. Matt Lynch '22 and Chris Lessel 23 have also claimed honorable mention accolades over the last two seasons. In addition to his duties on the gridiron, Hoyt has helped organize Gettysburgs strength and conditioning program, creating innovative workouts for all varsity teams. He oversees a staff of certified strength coaches and makes sure each student-athlete gets the resources he or she needs to be successful in a specific sport. Hoyt is a well-known name in the Centennial Conferencing, having served as the head coach at McDaniel College (2012-2015) and as an assistant at Franklin & Marshall College (1998, 2000-03). He oversaw all aspects of McDaniel's football program and increased both roster size and talent level through successful recruiting. Hoyt coached defensive backs, linebackers, and running backs and served as recruiting coordinator during his two stints in Lancaster. At both institutions he developed and implemented successful strength and conditioning programs and improved injury prevention for the student-athletes. In between his Centennial stints, Hoyt served as the associate head coach, defensive coordinator and director of strength and conditioning at Albright College. He helped the Lions achieve a school record for wins in 2009 and led the program to five postseason appearances in eight seasons. In 2011, he was a finalist for American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year. Hoyt also oversaw the development of a strength and conditioning program for all varsity sports at Albright. Most recently at the collegiate level, he served as the defensive coordinator at Grove City College for the 2016 season. Additional college coaching stops include Millersville University (1996) and Canisius College (1994-95).
