Head Coach
Neary was hired in December of 2008 to start up the brand new basketball program at Gillette College. While leading the program, Coach Nearys teams have won 133 games in six seasons for an average of 22 wins a year and a 70% winning percentage. Coach Neary has been named coach of the year twice (2010 and 2014) since being the head coach at Gillette College. Eight-four percent of the all the sophomores who have played for coach Neary have graduated with an Associate of ArtsDegree. Eight-nine percent of all the sophomores who have played for Coach Neary have continued their basketball career and education at the four-year level. Coach Neary has also had a numb er of former players play professional in the CBA, Australia, Asia, and Europe. In 2014-2015 the Pronghorns made history again, qualifying the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time. The Pronghorns finished the season with an overall record of 27-8. The Pronghorns finished second in the North Sub-Region in the regular season and played in the Region IX Tournament championship for the second season in a row. The Pronghorns started the season nationally ranked at #9, and were nationally ranked most of the season. The Pronghorns were led by sophomores Rickey Suggs, Renard Suggs, Quinton Everett, Sarp Gobeloglu, Lorenzo Bonam, and Ben Glover. Lorenzo Bonam was third team All-American, first team All-Region, and all-tournament. Brandon Jones, third team all-region, and Kavell Bigby-Williams, third team all-region, and Renard Suggs, all-tournament. Bonam signed at the University of Utah, Renard Suggs signed at Washington State University, Quinton Everett and Sarp Gobeloglu signed at Montana State University, Rickey Suggs signed at the University of Mary, and Ben Glover. The 2013-2014 Pronghorns ended the 2013-2014 season with a school record 29 wins to only 4 losses and finished the season ranked on the #9 team in the nation in the final NJCAA national poll. The Pronghorns were the North Sub-Region champions with a record of 15-1. The Pronghorns played for the Region IX title but lost in the championship game in overtime. The Pronghorns had a school record 19 game win streak and finished the season ranked in the 10 nationally in a number of statistical categories. The Pronghorns were led by sophomores Muhammed Ahmed (Bronx), Dwight Anderson (Minneapolis) and Jayden Walsh (Australia). Post season awards included Muhammed Ahmed, Third All American, first team all-region, and all-tournament. Renard Suggs was second team all-region, Dwight Anderson was third team all-region, and all-tournament. Lorenzo Bonam was second team all-region and all-tournament. Ahmed signed at the University of North Texas, and Anderson signed at Georgia State College and University. The 2012-2013 Pronghorns finished the season with an overall record of 17-13. The 2012-2013 Pronghorns won a game at the Region IX Tournament for the first time in the young history of the program. That season the Pronghorns also beat a number of nationally ranked teams and have an eight game conference road win streak. Sophomores Lucas Reller (Lead, South Dakota) signed at the University of Minnesota-Crookston, Andre Marquez(Denver) signed at Biola University and Myles Henry (Milwaukee) signed at Black hills state University. 2011-2012 saw the Pronghorns finish with an overall record of 18-13. The Pronghorns were led by sophomores Kalen Foreman (Detroit) Reece Maxwell (Perth, Australia), Kashuane McKinney (Chicago) and Matt Strickland (Los Angles). Freshman George Edwards (Chicago) was an all-region choice and freshman red-shirt James Hunter (Australia) signed at Washington State. Hunter finished his career at the University of South Dakota and is currently playing professional in Australia. Foreman continued his career at Saginaw Valley State University (MI.), McKinney continued his career at Lon Morris (IL.), and Strickland continued his career Rocky Mountain College(MT). The 2010-2011 Pronghorns finished the season with 24-7 overall record. The Pronghorns were led by Sophomore NJCAA All-American Ryan Aaron. Aaron was named the Wyoming Community College Athletic Association MVP, was a third team All-American and led the nation in scoring, averaging 27 points a games. Aaron continued his college career at Southern Nazarene University. Patrick Webb (Bozeman, MT.) continued his college career at Montana State University. In the inaugural season of 2009-2010, the Pronghorns finished with a 18-12 overall record and a second place finish in the Region IX Central Sub-Region. Coach Neary was named the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference Co-Coach of the Year that season. Sophomore star DeJuan Wright (Detroit, MI.) was named Region IX All-Region, MVP of the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference and was nominated for NJCAA All-American. Sophomore Darnell Maze (Zwolle, LA.) was named to the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference All-Defensive team. DeJuan Wright transferred to Florida International University and played for former NBA great Isiah Thomas. After a very successful run at FIU, DeJuan continued his playing career in Europe. He continues to play professional in Sweden and France. Nik Mandic continued his career at Montana State University-Billings. Coach Neary began his college head coaching career at Miles Community College (Miles City, Montana) in 1996-97. He served as the head coach at MCC for twelve and a half seasons. During his tenure as the head coach of the Pioneers, his teams won 204 games which placed him as the all-time career leader in wins at MCC. His Pioneer teams won the MonDak Conference regular season title once, tied for the Region IX Sub-Region regular season conference once. Neary was also named MonDak Coach of the year in 2000. His last three seasons Miles, they averaged 19 wins a year, and had a 20 win season for only the second time in school history. In 2005-2006 the Pioneers were ranked nationally for the first time in school history. The Pioneers were ranked for five weeks and were ranked as high as #14 in the nation. The Pioneers were named the NJCAA Academic Team-of-the-Year five times, and had the highest team gpa averaged in the nation among all mens basketball programs, three times. Coach Neary has had a number of articles published for national magazines such as Scholastic Coach, Winning Hoops, and Juco Review. In 1996, Coach Neary was nominated to serve on the national advisory board of the publication Winning Hoops. Shawn and his wife Ann have four children, Tyler (15), Jefferson (13), Abi (11), and Kaylie (9).
