Jake Casteel
Head Coach
Jake Casteel was named Head Coach of the Glenville State Football program on December 8, 2025. He is the 26th Head Coach in the history of the Pioneer Football program. "We are excited to welcome Coach Casteel into our Pioneer Family," Skiles said. "He is a talented young coach who has worked on some strong coaching staffs and has also proven to be an aggressive recruiter." Casteel comes to Glenville State after serving as a defensive assistant coach with West Virginia University, working primarily with the linebackers under his father, bandits coach Jeff Casteel. Jake was hired by former GSU head coach and current WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez in January 2025 to join the Mountaineers staff. “It’s an honor to be named the head coach at Glenville State. I am excited to build on the tradition of this program and make the university, community and alumni proud to be Pioneers,” said Casteel. Prior to West Virginia, Casteel spent one season at Jacksonville State where he was a defensive analyst and SAM’s coach. In 2024, Jacksonville State linebackers racked up more than 240 tackles, which helped the Gamecocks to a No. 11 nationally ranked redzone defense and No. 16 ranked in turnovers gained with 24. Casteel’s first full-time position came at Cal Poly in 2022 as the linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator. He spent two seasons on the Mustangs staff after spending one season each as a graduate assistant at West Virginia (2021) and Boise State (2020) on the defensive side of the ball. Casteel was a standout linebacker at Northern Arizona from 2014-18, totaling 250 tackles in 44 games played over four seasons with the Lumberjacks. He led NAU in 2018 with 90 stops and had 54 tackles in 2017 when Northern Arizona earned their first bid to the FCS Playoffs since 2013. Casteel was a four-time Big Sky All-Academic Team selection as well during his playing career before staying at NAU in 2019 as a graduate assistant. “I want to thank Director of Athletics Jesse Skiles, President Dr. Manchin and Ike Morris for believing in me,” closed Casteel. Glenville State will formally introduce Casteel to the community, media and the University this week. It will be open to all of the public. Dave McEntire is in his 19th season as an Assistant Coach for the Glenville State Football program in 2025. McEntire is the Special Teams Coordinator while also serving as the Director of Football Operations and Recruiting Coordinator. On campus, he is the Academic Oversight Coordinator. Prior to joining the Pioneer staff, Coach McEntire served as Assistant Defensive Line Coach and Junior Varsity Head Coach at Buffalo State. Coach McEntire graduated from Buffalo State College in December 2005 with a dual degree in History and Individualized Studies and a minor in Coaching. He received a Masters of Education in Physical Education and Health from Salem International University in April 2008. McEntire also played for the Buffalo State defense. He recorded 33 tackles, 10.5 tackles for losses, and 2.5 sacks during his career. Coach McEntire is originally from Rochester, New York. He is married to GSU employee Tegan McEntire. They reside in Glenville with their son, Brennen and daughter, Fionna.

Jacob Roser

Jacob Roser was named the Defensive Backs Coach with the Glenville State Football program in January of 2026. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026. Roser, who most recently worked at West Virginia as a Defensive Assistant, comes to Glenville State with years of Division I coaching experience. While at WVU, Roser worked primarily with the cornerbacks in 2025. "We are excited to welcome Jacob to Glenville," said Casteel. "He has coached at every level and will bring a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge to the secondary." Roser had worked under former Glenville State and current WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez before, as Roser was a Defensive Graduate Assistant at Jacksonville State in 2024. That Jax State squad went on to win the Conference USA championship with a (9-5) overall record and (7-1) conference mark. He got his collegiate coaching start at FCS Rhode Island as an Offensive Quality Control Coach in 2023. During the '23 campaign, URI went (6-5, 4-4 CAA) with a highlighted 34-28 overtime victory over No. 20 New Hampshire. Roser shared his eagerness - "I'm very excited for the opportunity to join the staff here at Glenville State. We're going to continue to build something special." He played college football at Geneva College in Pennsylvania from 2018-21, where he was coached by former WVU cornerback Brandon Napoleon.

Nate Mullen
Coach
Nate Mullen was named the Offensive Coordinator & Quarterbacks Coach with the Glenville State Football program in December of 2025. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026. Mullen comes to Glenville State after spending a season at one of Division II’s top football schools, Lenoir-Rhyne, as the Bears Running Backs Coach. In 2025, LRU went (6-5) overall and (5-4) in the South Atlantic Conference, which produced national semifinalist Newberry. In total, the Bears played four NCAA DII playoff teams in ’25. "I am excited to get Nate on staff at Glenville State. He will bring a proven system and develop players at a high level," said Coach Casteel. In an offense that ranked top five in the conference in passing, Mullen had four running backs who notched 25 or more carries with senior Alex Boyd leading the way with 91 carries for 417 yards and five touchdowns. Lenoir-Rhyne featured a dual threat quarterback, who led the team in rushes with 92 while adding 325 yards and nine touchdowns. Prior to Lenoir-Rhyne, Mullen was the Tight Ends Coach / Offensive Quality Control (WRs) at the University of Texas El-Paso (UTEP). During his time with the Miners, he was a pivotal recruiter and also worked both the punt and kick returners, with the punt return team ranking third in the country in yards per return. Mullen also spent time at UVA Wise as the Running Backs Coach and Co-Special Teams Coordinator. With the Cavaliers, he also oversaw the punt and kickoff return units, as well as taking over as the offensive play caller for the final game of the 2023 season. His coaching career began with Southern Miss in 2020, as he worked as a Graduate Assistant with the offensive line and in 2021, he worked with the wide receivers for the Golden Eagles. Mullen then went on to finish his time as a GA with Murray State in 2022, coaching special teams and handling offensive quality duties. He played collegiately at Charlotte (2015-17) before finishing his career at Western Carolina (2018-19), where he started all 23 games on offense and racked up 106 catches for over 1,000 yards and three touchdowns for his tenure. "I am very excited to join Jake's staff here at Glenville State and be a part of this football program. I'm looking forward to getting started and working with our players," noted the new offensive coordinator and QB coach of the Pioneers. Mullen is the son of longtime coach Jeff Mullen, who spent time at the University of Ohio, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Charlotte in a variety of positions, most notably as the OC at WVU (2008-10) and Charlotte (2011-17). Jeff coached Pat White in 2008 and was the primary recruiter for Geno Smith, as he would coach the future NFL draft pick for the Mountaineers.

Az-Zahir Smith

Az-Zahir Smith was named the Special Teams Coordinator and Cornerbacks Coach with the Glenville State Football program in January of 2026. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026. Smith previously worked as a Defensive Assistant at West Virginia under first-year head coach Rich Rodriguez. With the Mountaineers, Smith worked primarily with the linebackers. “We are excited to welcome Az-Zahir to Glenville State. He is a hard worker and will bring a lot of knowledge to our defense and the corner room,” noted Casteel. Prior to WVU, he spent the 2024 season at FCS Wofford as a Defensive Quality Control Coach. He was tasked with assisting the inside linebackers and special teams at Wofford, as the Terriers ’24 season was highlighted by their 26-19 upset victory at No. 14 Richmond. Before Wofford, Smith was a graduate assistant at Shepherd during the 2023 season. While at SU, the Rams went (9-3) and secured an NCAA DII Playoff appearance. “I’m excited to get things rolling here in Glenville,” said Smith. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe in Coach Casteel and Glenville State football. I’m excited to be a Pioneer!” Smith played collegiately at Erskine, where he was a tight end with the Flying Fleet. He earned his way onto a college roster after a successful high school career at Ashley Ridge HS in Summerville, S.C.

Rylan Ashe

Rylan Ashe was named a Defensive Analyst with the Glenville State Football program in April. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026. Ashe, who spent the 2025 season as the Running Backs Coach at Georgia Military College, comes to Glenville with a linebacking background. He played four seasons at Division II North Greenville in South Carolina, who is a member of the Conference Carolinas, and was a two-year starter for the Trailblazers. Ashe played in 38 career games, including an appearance in 10+ in each of his last three seasons at NGU, and toted 95 tackles, 7.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks during his playing career. He had his best season as a redshirt senior in 2024, when he had 51 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, three pass deflections and 1.5 sacks. The Ridgeville, S.C. native brings versatility that Coach Casteel says will help the Pioneer linebacking core. “I always think it’s a good thing for guy that’s coached on the other side of the ball,” noted Casteel on The Jake Casteel Show. “He’s been a really good addition and has helped me out a ton. Just in the day-to-day, on the field and with the players, he’s been great.” Ashe graduated from Woodland High School in 2020 and from North Greenville University in 2023 & 2024 with degrees in Cybersecurity and Organizational Leadership.

Javon Butler

Javon Butler is in his second season as the Wide Receivers Coach for the Glenville State Football program in 2025. In his first year on the coaching staff, Butler helped coach the Pioneers to their best season since joining the MEC in 2013, going (7-4) overall and (7-2) in MEC play with a 2nd place finish in the league. Under Butler's coaching, junior Tariq Miller garnered All-MEC Second Team honors with 42 receptions for 735 yards and eight touchdowns. The wealth was spread around the receiving core in 2024, with eight different receivers registering a catch. Butler, a member of the GSU Football team from 2017-21, played in 38 games during his career, amassing numbers that sit with other Pioneer greats. He finished his career with 177 receptions for 2,937 yards and 32 touchdowns. In his four seasons, he had 30+ receptions and 600+ yards in every single season. He was also a member of the GSU Track & Field team, previously serving as a Graduate Assistant during the 2022-23 season.

Cade Rohrbough

Cade Rohrbough was named the Offensive Line Coach with the Glenville State Football program in December of 2025. He is entering his first season with the Pioneers in 2026. Rohrbough previously worked at Utah State as a Junior Analyst with the offensive side of the ball. The Aggies went (6-7) in 2025, including a (4-4) mark in the Mountain West. USU ranked 2nd in the MWC in scoring offense (30.9 PPG), 3rd in total offense (409.5 YPG) and were in the top half in both passing YPG (247.0 YPG) and rushing YPG (162.5 YPG). "We are really excited to have Cade join our staff at Glenville State," said Coach Casteel. "He is going to bring a lot of knowledge and energy to our special teams units as well as the running backs room." Rohrbough spent the 2024 season at West Virginia as the Assistant Running Backs Coach on Neal Brown's staff. The (6-7, 5-4 Big 12) Mountaineers ranked 4th in the conference in rushing touchdowns (27), 5th in total rushing yards (2,536) and rushing yards per game (195.1 YPG). He also has experience at William & Mary, where he spent the 2023 season as an Offensive Quality Control Coach with the FCS program. There, his primary responsibilities included assisting the offensive coaches with film break down, scouting reports, working with scout team defense and assisting with the running backs. Rohrbough played quarterback and was a long snapper at West Virginia Wesleyan, where he graduated from in 2023. After his playing career, he spent the spring of '23 as a student assistant with the Bobcats. "I am super excited to join Coach Casteel in Glenville. I'm especially fired up to be back in the great state of West Virginia," mentioned Rohrbough. "Can't wait to get rolling." The Jane Lew, W.Va. native played high school football at Lewis County, where he led the Minutemen to back-to-back playoff appearances in 2018 and 2019. His connections within the state will reinforce Coach Casteel's initiative to recruit the best players in West Virginia to Glenville.
