Alex Childers
Head Coach
Childers played at both Goshen and Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Ill.). In 2007 he received a bachelor's in Business Management from ONU, where he also played volleyball. Following his collegiate career, he returned to his alma mater, New Haven High School where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach, helping the Bulldogs to a semi-state appearance. He has worked as an instructor with Swing Kings LLC, The World Baseball Academy and The Bill Jones league as well as various coaching assignments with The Eric Wedge Camps, Notre Dame Baseball Camps, collegiate summer leagues and various other youth leagues. He is also an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association. Justin Grubbs returns to the Maple Leaf coaching staff for his third season in 2015 after spending eight years as a high school varsity assistant, including the last five at Goshen High School. At Goshen High School, he helped the Redskins to the 2008 Elkhart Sectional Championship and he was previously part of Madison-Grant High School's 2006 Central Indiana Conference Championship team. Grubbs graduated from Triton High School, where he was a two-time All-Northern State Conference selection (one as a pitcher and one as an infielder). He posted a 15-4 career mark on the mound, while batting .370 with 33 runs and 20 RBI as a senior. He also played football and was a 1997 Academic All-State honoree. A 2002 Indiana Wesleyan University graduate - where he pitched for the Wildcats - Grubbs also holds a master's degree in Administration of Physical Education and Sport from Ball State University. He is currently a mathematics teacher at Goshen High School and has been married to wife Emily since 2004. The couple has two young children, Eliana and Maycee, and reside in Bremen. Jackson Hallahan begins his second season on the Maple Leafs coaching staff in 2015. He graduated from Holy Cross College in South Bend, Indiana, in 2014 with a double major in business and communication with a minor in marketing. Hallahan played three years of college baseball at Holy Cross, at the time an NAIA program, and one at Wisconsin-Stout in NCAA Division III. In his senior season at Holy Cross, he helped the Saints to the most wins in school history and their first ever conference tournament, where they lost in the championship game. The son of Pat and Sharon Hallahan, Jackson prepped at Holy Family Catholic in Victoria, Minnesota, where he was a two-time all-conference selection. Doug Wellenreiter enters his first season as an assistant for the Maple Leafs following 35 years of teaching and coaching in Illinois. Wellenreiter retired in 2014 after spending 27 years at Momence High School as a biology and driver education teacher. He was also the head baseball coach at the high school and junior high school levels and served many years as the varsity assistant in basketball. He finished his high school career with more than 625 wins and six trips to the round of 16 in the state tournament. In addition to his high-school coaching career, Wellenreiter spent time at the professional level from the fall of 1999 to the spring of 2001 as the pitching coach for the Cook County Cheetahs (now the Windy City Thunderbolts) of the Frontier League. At Cook County, he coached alongside former major leaguers Milt Pappas, Ron LeFlore and Carlos May. Wellenreiter also spent three years as an assistant basketball coach at Olivet Nazarene University from 1987-1990 under legendary head coach Ralph Hodge. In his second year at ONU, the Tigers advanced to the 1989 NAIA National Basketball Tournament for the first time in school history. Wellenreiter also served as a part-time assistant for the ONU baseball team under head coach Todd Reid in 2007-08. Wellenreiter earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with minors in biology, health and driver education from Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., in 1979. Five years later, he received his master's degree in physical education from Illinois State University. Wellenreiter has also been a veteran in the officiating ranks, officiating for 37 years. He is active in baseball, softball and basketball officiating, having worked all three sports at the college level. He was assigned to the IESA state finals in basketball four times. Following his retirement, Wellenreiter moved to Goshen. He and his wife Kelly are the parents of two daughters: Brooke, who lives in New Paris, Ind., with her husband and two children, and Bria, who lives with her husband in Goldsboro, N.C.

Brad Stoltzfus
Head Coach
Goshen College Director of Athletics Dr. Erica Albertin announced Brad Stoltzfus, a GC grad, would be the next head baseball coach for the Maple Leafs, effective on August 1, 2023. Stoltzfus had been an assistant coach for the program since 2020 and was a volunteer assistant in 2019. He is a 2018 Goshen College graduate who made 199 appearances as a first and second baseman. Stoltzfus gained a reputation as a hard-nosed competitor who never gave up. At the end of his career, he held the school record for walks and runs scored; he was fifth in games played, eighth in hits and eighth in doubles. He was named the interim head coach on May 3 following the resignation of Alex Childers, who left to spend more time with his family after 11 seasons as head coach. Stoltzfus is the 12th head coach in program history.

James Stricker
Coach
Stricker joined the Maple Leafs baseball staff as the Pitching Coach in 2023 in preparation for the 2024 season. He attended Mt. Vernon High School and played baseball for two years at Goshen College. Most recently, Stricker has coached high school baseball in Anderson, Indiana, while serving as a teacher over the last three years. He currently teaches at Goshen High School. He has bachelor's degrees in elementary education and special education and is working on a master's in administration. He has a supportive family, which includes Frank, Susanne, Morgan and Megan Stricker, and Luke Elsner.
