Tyra Carver

Head Coach

Tyra Carver, one of the most accomplished student-athletes in Goshen College women’s basketball history, was named the program’s eighth head coach in the summer of 2024. A rising head coach, Carver has quickly established a foundation centered on player development, academic success, and a strong, competitive culture. In her first two seasons leading the Maple Leafs, Carver has delivered measurable impact across multiple areas of the program. She has matched the team’s conference win total while maintaining a 100% graduation rate among her student-athletes. Her program has also achieved a 3.5 team GPA, and she has developed players who have gone on to compete at the Division I level and professionally overseas - demonstrating her ability to prepare athletes for advancement at the highest levels. Carver’s coaching philosophy is rooted in a holistic approach - developing student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally - while building disciplined, high-character teams capable of competing in one of the NAIA’s most competitive conferences. As a player at Goshen, Carver was a two-time All-Crossroads League selection and helped lead the Maple Leafs to the 2015-16 NAIA national semifinals. She finished her career ranked in the program’s top ten in multiple statistical categories - including scoring, field goals made, three-point percentage and free throws made. Her coaching experience includes impactful stops at Louisburg College and Catawba Valley Community College, where her teams combined for a 76-18 record. She returned to Goshen as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season before being elevated to head coach. Carver is committed to building a program that develops high-level competitors, strong leaders, and well-rounded individuals, while continuing to elevate Goshen College women’s basketball within the Crossroads League and beyond.

Scott Curtis

Head Coach

Goshen's director of athletics, Dr. Erica Albertin, announced that Scott Curtis would serve as the first bowling head coach in Goshen's program history — directing both the men's and women's teams. He began the role on August 1, 2023, and arrived after most recently leading the men's and women's bowling programs at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Curtis came to Goshen with prior experience in starting a program from scratch. He founded the Reese (Michigan) High School bowling club in 2008, which grew into a team by 2010. While with the Rockets from 2010 to 2020, Curtis coached four all-state and multiple academic all-state bowlers and teams. He served as an executive member of the Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association and was the Division IV Coach of the Year in 2018. Curtis also coached at Cass City High School and East Kentwood High School. More recently, Curtis had collegiate coaching experience at the NAIA level after leading the men's and women's programs at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. During the 2021-22 season, he led the men's team to a fourth-place finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship and the women's team to a seventh-place finish. The men's team placed first out of 16 at the Cornerstone University Tournament earlier in the season. He coached an All-Conference selection and 12 Academic All-Americans while with the Saints. Curtis has been bowling for over 40 years and has three 300 games to his credit. His coaching motto is to focus on the fundamentals to finish strong and have fun doing it. Curtis is a native of Middleville, Michigan, and a graduate of Northwood University.
