John Caslin

Assistant Coach

Caslin is into his second decade as the head coach of Gouchers cross country programs. In addition, he serves as the schools head track and field coach. During Caslin's tenure as head coach, three individuals have represented Goucher at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship. The first was Jeff Olenick, who competed in Boston in 1997 and again in Spokane, Wash., in 2000 where he earned Division III All-America honors by finishing in ninth place; the second was Fraley Coles who represented Goucher in St. Olaf, Minn., in 2007. In 2011, Joey Negreann became the second male runner from Goucher to compete at the NCAA Championship, which was held that year in Winneconne, Wisc. On four occasions while Goucher was a member of the Capital Athletic Conference, Caslin produced the Male Cross Country Runner of the Year, and once in the CAC and another time since the school's intercollegiate athletic program joined the Landmark Conference in 2007, two of his female cross country runners have been selected Rookie of the Year. Academically, Caslins runners have performed admirably over the years: 42 have attained national All-Academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association. Caslin was a successful coach at both Ursuline Academy in Delaware and Chantilly High School in Virginia prior to his arrival at Goucher. He and his wife Rose are the parents of three children.

Katelynn Zidanic

Assistant Coach

Zidanic will remain with the program for her first season as a graduate assistant. As an undergrad, Zidanic was a five-time all-conference performer. She placed in the top 10 at the Landmark cross country championships in each of her final three seasons, including an eighth place result during her junior year. Zidanic also had a career-best regional showing that year, finishing 59th in a field of 346 runners. On the track, Zidanic was the Landmark runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as a sophomore, and she currently holds the top four school times in that event. Zidanic was additionally part of a Second-Team All-Landmark distance medley relay indoor squad in 2012. Zidanic racked up several awards during her time as a Gopher. She was Gouchers representative on the Landmark Womens Cross Country All-Sportsmanship team in 2013, and she was presented with Gouchers Student Leadership Award at the schools senior awards ceremony this past spring. She was a team captain in 2013-14, and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as a sophomore. In the community, Zidanic has spent time interning at Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization in Baltimore that promotes the self-sufficiency of homeless people. She has also interned at Olivias House: a center for grieving children in York, Pa. Zidanic graduated from Goucher with a bachelors degree in business management. She is currently a graduate student in Gouchers MA in Management program.
