Charlie Cunningham

Assistant Coach

Cunningham enters his second season as Assistant Coach for the Men and Women Swimming and Diving teams in the 2016-17 season. Cunningham came to Grand Canyon after a 35-year club coaching career with the Arizona Swimming Gauchos, the last 23 as head coach and chief executive officer. The list of accomplishments he helped his athletes attain is rare, including: He also has had two USA Swimming National Team members, one placing third at the World University Games in 2006, and has been a consultant and advisor to an Olympic Finalist in 2012 and World Championship winner in 2013. Cunningham has been a speaker at USA Swimming National Coaches Colleges and is recognized among his peers as one of the top coaches with regards to training methodology and training program design. He is regularly sought after speaker on topics ranging from lactate testing, weight training in swimming and the Parametric Training System developed in Russia. He is a past member of USA Swimming Sports Science and Senior Swimming committees and is also a past member of the USA Coach Mentor Program. In addition, he is a professional member of the National Strength Coaches Association and American College of Sport Medicine.  Cunningham graduated from Arizona State in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as a Navy hospital corpsman assigned to 2nd Reconnaissance Bn. USMC.  Cunningham has been married for more than 35 years to Lisa Cunningham and they have one daughter, Erin Wickersham, who is a senior analyst for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Marshall Dilworth

Assistant Coach

Dilworth enters his second season as an assistant coach with the GCU swimming and diving program in 2015-16. He joined the Canyon swim family after being a standout student-athlete at Wyoming. At Wyoming, Dilworth was a 12-time Mountain West finalist and two-time conference champion in the 100-backstroke. In addition to his success in the pool, he was an academic all-conference honoree and was the president of Wyomings Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Dilworth still sits among the top five in several events all-time at Wyoming. His list of coaching stints include the Chester Penguins in Chester, Mont., the Arizona Swimming Gauchos, and an internship with the Wyoming swimming program.   Dilworth graduated from Wyoming with a bachelors degree in kinesiology and health promotion.
