Jamie Detillion
Head Coach
Detillion was named the eighth head coach of the Laker baseball program, replacing Steve Lyon after his retirement following the 2012 season. Previously, Detillion had completed 10 seasons as an assistant coach at GVSU, including the last three of which he had been the associate head coach. Detillion is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Lakers. In his first four years at the helm, GVSU has compiled a 147-68-1 overall record and a 89-32 mark in GLIAC play. Detillion recently completed his fourth year at the helm for the Lakers in the spring of 2016, guiding the team to a 36-18-1 record, a share of the GLIAC regular season title and their 11th GLIAC Tournament title. The Lakers advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, defeating Hillsdale College in the opening round before bowing out of the tournament. As a team, the Lakers were fourth in the GLIAC in runs scored (329), third in hits (556), fourth in runs batted in (304) and fifth in team batting average (.305). Detillions fourth year saw the emergence of closer Matt Williams, who tied the NCAA Division II saves record for a season with 20, and was named to the CCA, NCBWA and ABCA All-American Teams, as well as being an All-GLIAC First Team selection, a HERO sports All-American honoree and a finalist for the 2016 Brett Tomko and Josh Willingham awards. Williams set a new single season GVSU record for saves by converting 20 of 22 save opportunities. Aside from Williams, a total of five Lakers earned All-GLIAC honors. Senior Tim Tarter joined Williams on the First Team, Alex Young and Kyle Lawson were both named to the Second Team, and senior Jason Ribecky joined Anthony Villar as Honorable Mentions. Williams and Tarter were both recognized on the NCBWA Midwest Region Team as well, earning First and Second Team honors, respectively. Detillion's second year saw GVSU post a 39-13 overall record, claim its fourth consecutive GLIAC regular season title with a 24-6 record in league play, and the 2014 GLIAC Tournament crown. For his outstanding efforts, Detillion was recognized as the GLIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. GVSU's 2014 campaign eventually came to an end in the semifinals of the Midwest Regional Tournament, which was hosted by eventual national champion Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana. In its season-opening series at Southern Indiana, the Lakers took two of the three games, making it the second consecutive campaign in which they defeated the eventual national champion. As a team, the Lakers were tied for eighth among Division II clubs in on-base percentage (.415) and ranked 17th in home runs per game (0.79), 19th in slugging percentage (.453) and 24th in batting average (.319). At season's end, two Lakers garnered American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American Honors. Giancarlo Brugnoni, who was also named the Daktronics, Inc. Player of the Year and finished second in the Tino Martinez Award voting, garnered a first-team laurel. Jamie Potts was chosen to the third team. Both were voted onto the same teams by the National College Baseball Writers Association, while Kevin Zak and Evan Nietfeldt were honorable mentions. Nietfeldt was also named GLIAC Pitcher of the Year. In 2013, his first season as a head coach, Detillion led the Lakers to their sixth NCAA Division II College World Series appearance and finished third, the second-highest finish in the program's history. GVSU finished with an overall record of 38-19 and defeated top-ranked and eventual national champion Tampa in the quarterfinals of the College World Series. GVSU was the runner-up in the GLIAC Tournament and won the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship. Three victories in the College World Series matched the program's best total, equaling the 2004 team, which finished as national runner-up. GVSU finished the season ranked #3 in the ABCA poll. Earlier in the season, the Lakers throttled eventual national runner-up Minnesota State 12-0 (March 11). The GVSU pitching staff turned in one of the best seasons in school history, finishing fourth in the country in earned run average (2.68), fifth in walks/hits allowed per inning (1.17) and seventh in hits allowed per nine innings (7.75). Following the season, Detillion was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year and Midwest Region Coach of the Year. An 12-year veteran of the GVSU coaching staff, Detillion has been a part of the most successful 12-year run in program history. The Lakers are 503-165-2 (.752) with 12 NCAA DII tournament appearances, six NCAA Midwest regional titles, six NCAA DII World Series appearances (2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2013) and 10 GLIAC titles. In addition, GVSU played for the 2004 baseball National Championship. Detillion was responsible for hitting and recruiting during his time as an assistant coach with the Lakers. Grand Valley State has been one of the top offensive teams in the country with Detillion as the hitting coach. The Lakers' 2013 World Series appearance marked Detillion's seventh trip to the Division II World Series as he made the trip in 1999 as a player at Ashland University. In 2011, with new less-explosive bats, the Lakers tied for first in the country with 462 runs scored, seventh in batting average (.338), and 12th in scoring (8.1 runs/game) and hits (580). GVSU finished the 2010 season ranked 8th in NCAA Division II in hitting at a .363 clip. In the 2009 campaign the Lakers had a team batting average of .344, ranking 14th in Division II. The 2009 team also finished 9th in Division II in total hits with 687. The 2008 Lakers hit .347, which ranked 13th in Division II, while the 2007 lineup ranked third among all divisions with a .370 batting average. In 2006 GVSU hit .345, ranking 15th in NCAA Division II. In 12 seasons, 79 Laker position players have been named All-GLIAC and 63 have been named to postseason all-tournament teams. In addition, GVSU has set virtually every individual single-season and career record. Several GVSU team records have also been broken over the last seven seasons, including batting average, hits, runs, doubles, triples, RBIs, total bases and on-base percentage. Detillion served as pitching coach at Ashland University and assistant baseball coach at Tiffin Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio prior to leaving for minor league spring training. Detillion pitched for three seasons in the Detroit Tigers' and Cincinnati Reds' organizations. He began as a professional with the Chillicothe Paints of the Frontier League before signing with the Detroit Tigers. Jamie was also a pitcher and first baseman from 1997-2000 at Ashland University. He earned NCAA DII first team All-American honors as a junior first baseman and was a four time All-GLIAC recipient as a first baseman/pitcher. Detillion left Ashland holding 17 individual records, including career home runs (46), and RBI's (203), single season home runs (23), RBI's (89), total bases (162), single game home runs (4) and RBI's (8). Detillion is also among the leaders in career innings pitched (333.0) and wins (30) for the Eagles. His 46 home runs were a GLIAC record until Brugnoni broke it with a three-run homer on May 10, 2014. Jordan Keur
Head Coach
Jordan Keur is set for his third year as head coach of the Grand Valley State baseball program. He was announced the eighth head coach in Grand Valley State history on June 14, 2023. He has led GVSU to a 73-39 mark in two years as the head coach, including two appearances in the NCAA Tournament and one GLIAC title. Keur guided GVSU to a 43-14 record in 2025, including an 18-6 ledger in GLIAC action. In addition, the Lakers hosted an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2006. He has ignited the Laker offense in all facets of the game as his 2025 squad finished in the top of virtually every category in the record book. Ten Lakers earned All-GLIAC honors, including four on the first team and four on the second team. SS Evan Morrison, LF Ryan Dykstra and starting pitchers Jayden Dentler and Collin Bradley were first-team selections. Dentler, Morrison, Jonas Gulbrandsen and Dykstra were unanimous all-region performers, with Dentler earning All-American honors after recording a 12-0 record on the mound. Morrison set a GVSU record for single-season runs (73) and Gulbrandsen finished his career among the all-time leaders offensively. Keur guided the Lakers to a 30-25 record his first year, including the 2024 GLIAC Tournament Championship and an appearance in the 2024 NCAA DII Baseball Tournament, the programs first appearance since 2016. The Lakers finished 18-12 in GLIAC action and went 4-0 in the GLIAC Tournament to earn the NCAA Tournament berth. The GLIAC Tournament Championship was the Lakers' first since 2016. Keur was hired as an assistant coach at WMU in 2021 and took on the additional responsibility of being recruiting coordinator in the summer of 2022. Keur played a key role in the Broncos going 11-5 to end the 2023 regular season and advancing to the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the first time since 2017. All-MAC performers Cade Sullivan and Jimmy Allen led the WMU offense under the direction of Keur. In his first season the Broncos set a single-season program record with 131 doubles. Dylan Nevar was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American, while Connor Charping earned his second straight First Team All-MAC selection. Cade Sullivan was picked for both the All-MAC Second Team and the All-MAC Defensive Team. Nevar and Sullivan became the first two Bronco teammates to hit double-digit homers in the same season since 2001. Prior to joining the Broncos, Keur was the head coach at Lansing Community College for three years. He guided the Stars to a 47-3 record and berth in the NJCAA Region XII Baseball Championship Series after finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the nation in 2021. His first LCC squad in 2019 went 36-9 and ranked seventh nationally among NJCAA Division II teams. His teams that played full seasons in 2019 and 2021 own the top two winning percentages in school history. Keur was voted conference coach of the year in both 2019 and 2021, while also collecting regional coach of the year honors in 2021. Prior to his time at LCC, he spent four seasons at Michigan State, where he helped the Spartans set a school record for stolen bases in 2018 (100), a mark which led the Big Ten and ranked 10th nationally. Keur spent one season as an assistant at Eastern Michigan before moving to Michigan State. As a player, Keur started 150 games for Michigan State and was a four-year letterwinner. Jordan was a .315 career hitter who guided the Spartans to an overall record of 140-80 during his career. He was an All-Big Ten honoree as a junior as he led MSU to an NCAA Regional berth, while leading the team in batting (.353), hits (89) and multi-hit games (31). In addition, Michigan State captured the 2011 Big 10 Championship when Keur was a sophomore. A native of Hudsonville, Keur graduated from Michigan State with a degree in advertising and played professionally for the Washington Wild Things in the independent Frontier League. Keur and his wife, Jamie, are the proud parents of son, Hayden (3) and infant daughter Logan.

Peter Romsek

Pete Romsek enters his second year on the Grand Valley State baseball staff as the recruiting coordinator and infield coach. Prior to being the first hire for head coach Jordan Keur, Romsek was an assistant coach at St. Xavier University. Romsek was a key contributor to a Laker infield that earned three All-GLIAC honors and posted a .960 fielding percentage. Romsek most recently completed his third season as an assistant coach at St. Xavier University (Chicago, Ill.), serving as the hitting coach, infield coach and recruiting coordinator. The 2023 Cougars captured the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship and advanced to the NAIA World Series in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Four position players earned All-CCAC honors in 2023, including the Freshman of the Year and a Gold Glove Award honoree. The 2022 Cougar offense led the CCAC in every offensive category and ranked in the Top-25 in the NAIA in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples, stolen bases, RBIs, and runs. SXU also had five hitters earn All-Conference honors in 2022, and one player moved on to play professionally. In 2021, St. Xavier had two hitters earn All-Conference honors and the conference Freshman of the Year, while the offense ranked No. 6 in the NAIA in stolen bases (147) and No. 11 in total doubles (119). The defense also ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in total assists (564) and one infielder earned a CCAC Gold Glove Award. Romsek served as a graduate assistant baseball coach at Salem University (W.V.) where he received his MBA in Sports and Recreation Management. Romsek served as a graduate assistant coach during the 2020 season before being promoted to assistant coach/recruiting coordinator in July of 2020. While at Salem, he worked as the team's infield coach, assistant hitting coach, and 3rd base coach. Romsek has also had coaching stints as a head coach for the Lansing Loco's in the Lemonade Collegiate League in 2020, and as an assistant coach at Olivet College (Mich.) in 2019. Peter received his bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus in entrepreneurial studies from Adrian College (Mich.) in 2018. Romsek was a middle infielder for the Bulldog's and won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship all four years at Adrian.

Brian Martin

Brian Martin enters his first year at Grand Valley State as the pitching coach. Martin spent the two previous season's at Alma College as the pitching coach. Martin guided the Alma pitching staff in 2025 that recorded 346 strikeouts, while ace Tyler Johnson earned D3 Baseball All-America honors. Johnson tallied a 7-1 record with 125 strikeouts in 79.2 innings pitched with two shutouts. In addition, opponents hit just .194 off Johnson in his 12 starts. Martin is a recent graduate of Michigan State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Leadership & Strategy and a minor in Public Relations. He was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as well as a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. During his time at MSU, he was a three-time letter winner of the Varsity Baseball team. During his senior season he was named a team captain. Martin was able to successfully return to play after undergoing UCL surgery in 2020, racking up 34 innings on the mound over his career. Martin has been an instructor in the private sector for three years, providing private lessons that covered basic fundamentals as well as specific pitching, hitting and fielding instruction. He completed the Rapsodo Pitching Certification in the spring of 2023. In the summer of 2023, Martin was named the pitching coach for the Traverse City Pit Spitters of the Northwoods League. During his time, Traverse City won the first half of the league’s schedule, clinching a playoff berth. Under Martin, the team finished the first half with a 3.50 team ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 262 strikeouts, and .238 opponent batting average. Martin and his wife, Kait, are the parents of infant daughter Maisie.
