Greenville University Women's Volleyball

Tom Ackerman served as Athletic Director from 2017 to 2024 and has served as head women's volleyball coach since 2002.  Effective June 1, 2017, and in conjunction with Greenville's transition to Greenville University, Ackerman was assigned to his joint role.During Ackerman's tenure as head women's volleyball coach, the volleyball team has experienced a formidable amount of success. The accomplishments of Ackerman's teams have included 12 of the last 13 SLIAC regular season championships; NCAA tournament bids in 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021; and 14 consecutive seasons with 18 or more wins which included an abbreviated 2020-21 season in which the program was ranked in the NCAA Division III top 25.  Coach Ackerman is also a six-time SLIAC "Coach of the Year" award recipient.Ackerman also served as head men's volleyball coach for it's inaugural season in 2016, and the team finished with a 16-11 record and was seventh in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League. They topped all first year conference programs with their seventh place position in a league of 14 teams.

Emily Butler returned to Greenville University to relaunch the men’s volleyball program in May 2023. Butler was a four-year member of the Greenville volleyball team as a setter and defensive specialist, Butler played in two the NCAA national tournaments (2015, 2016) and served as an assistant coach for two seasons (2017, 2018) when the Panthers qualified for the NCAA national tournament.After her time as an assistant coach, Butler spent four years as the head volleyball coach at Monmouth College where she led the team to its first Midwest Conference tournament appearance in nine years. Each season, the Scots won 11 or more matches, reaching a high of 15 wins in 2021. Their 2021 record of 15-14 marked the program's first winning season since 2012.Coach Butler has also coached club volleyball from 2015-2024 earning a 2016 Mid East Qualifier Gold Bracket 3rd Place, 2018 Gateway Regional Championships, two USAV Bids (2022, 2023) and a 2022 USAV National Championship.

Phil Davis has served as an assistant women's volleyball coach since 2015.Davis is no stranger to Greenville University or the volleyball program. As one of the founders of the men’s club program while a Greenville College student, Davis played for the team from 1996-99. He was a dominant middle blocker in the MCVA as the team won a conference championship in 1999.Davis coached at Tuscola High School for four years and was the founder of Blaze Volleyball Club. Most recently, Davis was an assistant coach and then head coach for the men's volleyball program.Phil and his wife Suzanne live in Greenville where Suzanne is the President at Greenville University. They have two adult daughters, Brittany and Tiffany, and one grandchild.
