Steve Stetson

Head Coach

Stetson is in his fifth full season as head coach of the Hamilton College men's and women's golf teams. Stetson led the men to the NESCAC championship for the fourth time in five years in 2015-16. He coached one all-region golfer on the men's side and a total of three NESCAC all-conference honorees between the men's and women's teams. Both programs won a pair of tournament titles and nine men's and women's student-athletes made the NESCAC fall all-academic team. In 2014-15 the men's team finished second in the NESCAC championship qualifier and competed in the conference championship at Middlebury. Three players earned a spot on the 2014 NESCAC all-conference team. Stetson mentored Greg Scott '14 to a fourth consecutive Golf Coaches Association of America Division III Northeast Region all-region team honor in 2014. Stetson guided the men's team to third place at the NESCAC championship qualifier in 2012 and the team finished third again at the 2013 NESCAC championship. Three of his players earned a spot on the 2012 all-conference team and Matt Yung '16 picked up NESCAC rookie of the year honors. Stetson was the program's interim head coach in the spring of 2012 and he coached Hamilton in the NESCAC championship. Stetson was named the inaugural coach of the women's golf program on May 9, 2012. The women recorded their first team title at the 2015 SUNY Delhi Spring Invitational and two players made the all-tournament team. One of Stetson's first-year players captured medalist honors at the 2014 Hamilton Spring Invitational and five student-athletes earned 2014 NESCAC Fall All-Academic Team honors.  In July 2016 Stetson rallied to win the Super Seniors Division at the Greater Utica City Amateur Golf Tournament. He collected the Senior Division crown at the 2010 Utica City Amateur and was the 2006 Syracuse District Golf Association Interclub Tournament individual champion at the Turning Stone Resort. Stetson was a two-time qualifier for the New Hampshire State Amateur Championship and was the medalist in a pre-qualifier at Province Lake in 2004. Stetson qualified for the New York State Amateur Championship in 1998. He is a two-time winner of the Oneonta Country Club championship and he captured the Otsego County Amateur Championship title in 1994 and 1995. Stetson graduated from Dartmouth College in 1973. At Laconia High School, Stetson was a three-time member of the New Hampshire all-state team at quarterback. He was ranked No. 31 by Sports Illustrated in 2000 when the magazine listed the state's 50 greatest sports figures. Steve and his wife Sue live in Clinton. They have three children, Amy, David and Meghan.

Lauren Cupp

Associate Head Coach

Cupp helped the men's golf team advance to the 2013, 2015 and 2016 NESCAC championship and assisted the women's team in its inaugural season of intercollegiate competition. Cupp is one of the best female golfers in Central New York. In 2016 alone she has qualified for the Cupp owns five top-10 finishes at the New York State Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, 13 individual championships at New Hartford's Yahnundasis Club and titles at the 2011 Syracuse Post-Standard Championship and 2013 Central New York Championship. As an undergraduate Cupp helped form the women's golf club program at Hamilton and competed with the team for three years. She is a former member of the Continentals' volleyball and track & field teams. Cupp was on the track & field coaching staff for two seasons and worked with the high jumpers, long jumpers and triple jumpers. She coached a two-time all-American in the triple jump.

Bob Simon

Assistant Coach

Simon is in his 17th season as an assistant golf coach after a successful career as head coach of the Hamilton College men's golf program from 1987 to 2000. Simon's teams captured NESCAC championship titles in 1990 and 1998 and made their only NCAA Division III championship appearance in program history in 1999. Simon coached five individuals who qualified for the NCAA championship between 1989 and 1996. He also mentored a pair of two-time Golf Coaches Association of America all-academic team selections. Simon is a committee-person and rules official for the New York State Golf Association. He has been a professor in Hamilton's philosophy department since 1968. Simon received his bachelor's degree from Lafayette College and his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.
