Marissa Kozlowski
Head Coach
Marissa Kozlowski was named the seventh head women’s volleyball coach in modern Fighting Owls’ history in May 2025. Kozlowski is also entering her 12th year with Maryland Juniors and has an impressive track record of success. She has led teams to qualify for United States of America Volleyball (USAV) Nationals eight times, a testament to her skill and dedication as a coach. Her teams have earned bids to USAV Nationals at prestigious events such as the North East Qualifier and Big South Qualifier. Under her leadership, teams have achieved: Two 3rd-place finishes and a 5th-place finish in the Open Division at Capitol Hill Classic in Washington, D.C. A championship win at Monument City Classic in Richmond, Virginia A top-5 finish while playing up an age group in the Beast of the East Division at the East Coast Classic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania In addition to her coaching accomplishments, Kozlowski plays multiple key roles at Maryland Juniors. She serves as an elite coach, Tournament Coordinator, Camp and Clinic Director and Weekend Tournament Director. She was also an instrumental part of the staff that launched the club’s boys program, which grew from a single team to seven under her guidance. Originally from San Diego, California, Kozlowski played club volleyball for Epic Volleyball Club and San Diego Volleyball Club. She competed at the NCAA Division I level for Saint Peter’s University (Jersey City, New Jersey) for two years before taking a break to start a family. Her passion for the sport brought her back to the court, as she returned to play for one season at Atlantic Cape Community College (Mays Landing, New Jersey) and later transferred to Rutgers University – Camden (Camden, New Jersey) to complete her collegiate career. Kozlowski enjoys a good cup of coffee and spending time corralling her five children.

Andre Smalls
Head Coach
André Smalls was announced as the Fighting Owls inaugural head women's flag football coach in March 2025. Smalls brings more than 25 years of football playing, coaching, and player development experience to the Fighting Owls. Known for his dedication to mentoring student-athletes and fostering a culture of success, Smalls has consistently demonstrated a commitment to both athletic excellence and personal growth. His career includes coaching positions at Sparrows Point High School, Concordia Preparatory School, and Harford Technical High School, where he earned recognition for developing standout student-athletes and leading successful programs. During his tenure at Sparrows Point (2020-2022), he guided the junior varsity football team to its first ever conference championship in 2021 and a co-conference championship in 2022. In his three seasons (2017-2019) at Concordia Prep as defensive backs and special teams coach, the Saints’ secondary recorded 15 interceptions in 2017 and 13 interceptions in 2018. His mentorship has empowered countless athletes to reach their full potential both on and off the field. In Smalls’ only season at Harford Tech (2016), he was an assistant coach for junior varsity and varsity. As Defensive Coordinator for JV, he orchestrated a unit that allowed just 40 points in nine games played. In addition to his high school coaching roles, Smalls has served as a personal trainer and football instructor through his own training program, SYT/Red Zone Training. Through this initiative, he has trained athletes at all levels, including those who have gone on to compete in college, the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the National Football League (NFL). Smalls earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland University College. His extensive background also includes experience with the Department of Defense, showcasing his leadership and organizational skills in diverse settings. Smalls resides in Abingdon, Md. with his wife, Monica Greene-Smalls, and their two sons. He has worked for more than 20 years for the Department of Defense at the U.S. Army Fort George G. Meade building in Fort Meade, Maryland.

Jennifer Leaf
Assistant Coach
Jennifer Leaf enters Harford Community College's inaugural women's flag football season as a veteran leader with more than 15 years of coaching and playing experience across youth, high school and semi-professional football. Her foundation in coaching began at the youth level with Stembridge Recreation (2012-2018) and Parkville Recreation (2010), where she held roles ranging from assistant coach and offensive coordinator to defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. Her leadership contributed to multiple playoff runs and a championship runner-up finish. She currently also serves on the coaching staff of the Baltimore Night Hawks women's semi-professional tackle program, where she began in 2023 as a defensive line coach and special teams assistant. After helping guide the team to a playoff semifinal appearance, she continued leading the defensive line in 2024. Elevated to defensive coordinator in 2025, Leaf maintained her work with the defensive line and helped lead the Night Hawks to an undefeated season and a D2 Conference Championship. Leaf has six seasons of high school coaching experience from Kenwood High School (2019-2024). Starting as a junior varsity volunteer positions coach during a 3A/4A Baltimore County Championship season, she advanced to JV assistant coach and defensive coordinator. Throughout her tenure, she coached both offensive and defensive lines, coordinated special teams and served as kicking coach for both JV and varsity, including during the abbreviated 2020 season and the program's return to play in 2021. As a player, Leaf competed with the Baltimore Burn in the Women's Football Alliance and the Women's Spring Football League from 2010-2016. She earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2010 while helping secure a division title and went on to serve as a team captain from 2011-2016. Her playing career includes All-Star recognition and contributions to Division, Conference, and National Championships in 2011, along with multiple additional division titles. A versatile athlete, she played defensive end, center, and special teams and served as a player-coach from 2012-2016. Leaf's career reflects a strong dedication to leadership, player development and building championship-caliber programs at every level of the game.
