Hendrik Bode

Head Coach

Bode is in his fifth season as the men's tennis head coach. Over that span he has become one of the top coaches in the nation. His teams hold an overall record of 81-11 (.880) and is currently on a 37-match regular season winning streak.   This past season (2015) Bode led the Sharks to a perfect regular season (19-0) for the second consecutive year. The Sharks made a run to the National Championship match for the second consecutive year falling just short of the schools first ever national title in mens tennis to Barry University. HPU finished the season ranked #2 in the country for the second year in row with a 24-1 record. Bode was name PacWest Coach of the Year for the third straight season, as well as ITA West Region Coach of the Year and ITA National Coach of the Year. 4 Players of the 2014-205 Team received ITA-All American honors. In 2014, Bode repeated as PacWest Coach of the Year. He guided the Sea Warriors to a 23-1 record and the first appearance in the national championship final since 2003. HPU played one of the toughest schedules in the country, beating 15 ranked teams and a pair of Division I foes. In his first two seasons, he was named back-to-back ITA West Region Coach of the Year and made a pair of appearances in the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals. In 2013, he was also named PacWest Coach of the Year as his Sea Warriors won the league and knocked off nine ranked opponents en route to a final ITA ranking of 5th in the country. Bode, originally from Lehrte, Germany, had a stellar career as a member of the HPU tennis team. He was a member of three NCAA National Tournament teams and helped guide the Sea Warriors to third place national finish in 2009. Bode finished his last season ranked #2 in the West Region and was selected as the ITA Senior Male Player of the Year. His highest national rank was #5 in the country. He finished his three-year career at HPU with a 39-13 overall singles record, almost exclusively at the No. 1 position. He also posted a 45-15 career doubles record. Bode, a good student, was named to the 2009 ITA All-Academic Team. After his playing days were finished, Bode became a graduate assistant coach at HPU in 2010. He quickly was promoted to assistant coach for the 2011 season. Bode graduated from HPU in Management and received his masters in Business Administration. Daniel Pollock

Head Coach

Daniel Pollock joins HPU this season as the women's tennis coach. Throughout his coaching career, he has achieved remarkable success across various universities and conferences. At Johns Hopkins University from 2021 to 2024, he was honored as the ITA National Coach of the Year and Southeast Regional Coach of the Year in 2023, leading the team to its highest national ranking of 6 and securing three Centennial Conference Coach of the Year titles. Notable player achievements during his tenure include producing five All-Americans and guiding four players to the NCAA Individual Tournament. Additionally, he had impressive recruiting success with the team consistently ranked among the top in NCAA DIII, peaking at #2 nationally. During his time at the University of Maryland from 2019 to 2021, Pollock played a key role in developing the program's first Big-10 Freshman of the Year and mentoring two nationally ranked singles players. At Butler University in 2018-2019, he set a program record with 21 dual match wins and achieved the highest-ever Regular Season finish in the Big East, securing second place. Earlier in his career, at the University of Utah from 2014 to 2018, he led the team to its highest NCAA DI National Ranking of 24 and guided them to their first NCAA Championships appearance in 21 years as an At-Large Selection. Similarly, at Brigham Young University from 2012 to 2014, Pollock achieved the program's highest NCAA DI National Ranking of 30 and the highest Dual Match Winning Percentage in its history. At the University of Idaho in 2011-2012, he achieved the second-highest winning percentage in program history and secured the highest ITA Mountain Regional Ranking at 6. Lastly, at the University of Illinois, Chicago from 2007 to 2009, he led the team to two Horizon League Regular Season and Tournament Runner-Up finishes, marking a successful start to his coaching journey.
