Brian Jenkins

Head Coach

Jenkins was named the first-ever head mens lacrosse coach in early September of 2011 and begins his sixth season at the helm of the program in 2017. In 2016, he guided the Terriers to two victories, while seeing school records set in shots (359), goals (99) and assists (58). Jenkins also saw Hiram score a program record 17 goals in a 17-6 win over Cleary (Mich.). He guided the Terriers to a program record three wins in just its third season of existence in 2015. Hiram finished the season setting program records in goals, assists and points. Jenkins is a 1988 graduate of SUNY-Cortland with a degree in physical education. He comes to Hiram from Shenandoah (Va.) University where is served as head lacrosse coach for 14 seasons. While at Shenandoah, Jenkins led the Hornets to their most successful season in school history in 2007 with nine overall wins and five wins in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. The seven-game improvement was also good for the biggest single-season turnaround in NCAA lacrosse history. The Hornets would also post nine victories the following year during the 2008 season. Earlier in his career at Shenandoah, Jenkins helped lead the team to a school-tying high five victories during the 2005 season and qualified for the schools first-ever appearance in the PAC Tournament. Following the season, he was also named the conference coach of the year. Prior to his stay at Shenandoah, Jenkins served as an assistant coach at Division I Lehigh (Pa.) University, as a defensive coordinator for four seasons (1994-98). In 1995 and 1996, Jenkins defenses ranked as the top and third best defenses in the NCAA and coached two Patriot League Defensive Players of the Year (1995 and 1997). During his final season at Lehigh, Jenkins presided over a defense that spurred the Hawks to a top 25 ranking and an upset victory over No. 7 nationally-ranked Georgetown University. In addition, Jenkins also coached at Lafayette (Pa.) College for four seasons (1989-93) as an offensive coordinator and also coached a player who was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year during the 1991 season. As a student-athlete at SUNY-Cortland, Jenkins played two years of lacrosse and was a member of a team that captured the 1986 and 1987 SUNYAC Championship. In his first season at Cortland, he was named second-team All-SUNYAC as a midfielder. Jenkins began his post-secondary playing career at SUNY-Cobleskill prior to transferring to Cortland and was a honorable mention All-American in 1984 and was a two-time All-Region award winner (1984-85). He was also a member of the 1984 team that competed in the NJCAA Tournament and finished fourth overall. In the summer of 2001, Jenkins played for Team USA at the World Championships (Masters Division) in Perth, Australia. Team USA finished second as Jenkins had five goals, including two in the semi-finals.

Kevin Lerg

Assistant Coach

Lerg enters his second season as an assistant coach for men's lacrosse at Hiram. Lerg joins the Terriers after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI). While at VMI, he worked primarily with the goalkeepers. Lerg was a standout for four years as a goalie at Adrian (Mich.). He posted a 43-10 career record in goal, recording double digit victories in all three seasons in which he was a starter. Lerg's 43 career wins are a program record and his single season total of 17 in 2012 is also best in program history. In addition, Lerg also holds the Adrian record for career saves (486) and is second all-time in career save percentage (.532) and goals against average (8.40). Lerg was named Second Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, he ranked second in the conference in goals against average (9.68), while collecting two MIAA Defensive Player of the Week nods. The 2014 season also saw him earn one MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honor. During his time at Adrian, Lerg helped the Bulldogs to four-straight conference titles, winning the Midwest Lacrosse Conference in 2011 and 2012, while claiming the MIAA championship in 2012 and 2013. Lerg and his squad never dropped a league game in his four seasons, going 29-0 from 2011 to 2014. During all four years with the program, Lerg helped the Bulldogs to the NCAA tournament.
