Brett Shelley
Assistant Coach
Shelley 13 was elevated to head coach of the cross country and track and field program in the summer of 2015. During his first year, the Blazers set three overall school records in the men's javelin, men's triple jump, and women's pole vault. Additionally, between indoor and outdoor, a total of 12 school records were broken across the program. Shelley oversaw the first male ECAC qualifier and coached 13 All-Middle Atlantic Conference performers. Shelley's teams also performed in the classroom, where he mentored all-academic teams in cross country and track & field. Two individuals received national recognition: USTFCCCA All-Academic (women's cross country) and CoSIDA Academic All-America (men's track and field). He served as an assistant with the programs for two years before becoming head coach, specializing in the distance events. A native of Landisburg, Pa., Shelley was a standout in both sports for the Blazers, competing in events ranging from the 1,500-meter run to the 10,000, laying claim to seven school records. On the road, he finished 18th in the Delaware Marathon and added a 22nd place performance at the Frederick Half Marathon. Shelley holds USTFCCCA advanced coaching certifications in the combined events and jumps. Shelley received his bachelor's ('13) and master's ('16) degrees in biology from Hood.
