Hope College Men's Swimming And Diving

Aubrey Syron joined the Hope College men’s and women’s swimming and diving coaching staff before the 2025-26 season. Syron spent the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Ithaca College (N.Y).  She also served as a mental performance consultant with Ithaca student-athletes during the 2024-25 academic year. In 2025, Syron was named one of six nationwide recipients of the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Jean Freeman Scholarship. A 2023 Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio) graduate, Syron lettered for four years as a swimmer for the Yellow Jackets. She has also coached at the high school and age-group levels. Syron holds a Master’s of Science from Ithaca in Exercise Science with a focus on Mental Performance and a bachelor’s in psychology from Baldwin Wallace.  

David Jolly joined the Hope College men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs as an assistant coach on July 1, 2019. He also serves as the director of intramurals for the college.Prior to coming to Hope, Jolly taught and coached for Chelsea Public Schools from 1988 to 2019. He taught eighth-grade science. He also served as Chelsea’s community pool director from 1989 to 2004.Jolly guided Chelsea’s boys and girls swimming & diving teams to a combined total of 12 top-four finishes at Michigan High School Athletic Association state meets, including two state runner-up finishes.He coached 17 state champions, including four who won multiple titles at the same meet, and 11 High School All-America athletes.As an athlete, Jolly was a Mid-American Conference champion in swimming at Eastern Michigan University. He also captained the 1983 state champion Lansing Waverly swimming and diving team.Jolly holds a master's degree in educational leadership and bachelor's degree in biology from Eastern Michigan University.

Rebecca Garza joined the Hope College coaching staff as a diving coach beginning in the 2017-18 season. Garza came to Hope College after coaching girls and boys diving at Grand Rapids Christian High School from 2014 to 2017. The 2015 Calvin College graduate majored in elementary education while also minoring in language arts and Spanish. She is a first- and second-grade Spanish Immersion teacher for Zeeland Public Schools. Garza dove for Calvin for four years. She was a team captain for the 2014-15 season.
