Head Coach

Casaquits watch the Royals won the NAIA Independent Conference Tournament and qualified for the NAIA National Invitational in 2015. The 2016 squad tied the program record for NAIA wins and qualified for the NAIA Independent Tournament the Royals split with a win and a loss at the conference tournament in 2016. Prior to taking over the head position at HIU, Coach Casaquit worked as an assistant coach for the mens and womens volleyball teams at Long Beach City College and he continues to coach their programs concurrent with his work at HIU. Coach Casaquit served as an assistant coach on the womens volleyball team at Cypress College from 2011-13 and was the head coach for El Dorado High School from 2010-14. Before his stints with Cypress and El Dorado Coach Casaquit worked at HIU as an assistant with the mens and womens volleyball programs from 2009-2011. He got his start in coaching at Kamehameha in Hawaii from 2002-06. As a player for the Royals, Casaquit was a two-time NAIA All-American and was named the NAIA Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. In addition, Casaquit was named to the 2009 NAIA All-Tournament team. He still holds the all-time and single-season records for digs at HIU. Coach Casaquit graduated from HIU in 2012 with a bachelors degree in business management and went on to complete his Masters in physical education in 2014 from Azusa Pacific. Coach Casaquit was born and raised in Honolulu, HI and served four years with the Department of Defense at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyards.  Coach Noah Casaquit rejoined the Royals coaching staff in 2015 as the interim head coach and became the official head coach for the 2016 season after a successful conclusion to the 2015 campaign. Under Coach Casaquits watch the Royals won the NAIA Independent Conference Tournament and qualified for the NAIA National Invitational in 2015. Coach Casaquit was born and raised in Honolulu, HI and served four years with the Department of Defense at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyards.  Henry Valiente Jr. joined the Royals coaching staff midway through the 2015 season along with head coach Noah Casaquit. Valiente has a wealth of prior coaching experience and is an accomplished athlete in his own right. He has spent time on the coaching staffs of Iolani HS and Farrington HS and multiple club teams, including: Quicksets Volleyball Club, Team Sideout, Jammers and Imi Ike, Club Heights, Impact, and Rukkus Volleyball. Valiente currently serves as the head coach of the boys volleyball team at El Dorado High School in Placentia, CA, and is also involved as a coach of the girls team at El Dorado. Valiente began his playing career at Farrington HS and competed in several USA Junior Olympic tournaments. He was named the MVP of the 2002 18s Division Tournament as he helped his team to victory in the 18s Division. Valiente served in the US Army for eight years after graduating high school and achieved the rank of an E5 Sergeant while serving tours in Kuwait, Iraq, Quatar, and Japan. He was a member of the US Armed Forces Volleyball team and competed at the World CSIM games in Germany and Brazil. Valiente played four seasons for the Royals and helped HIU to three postseason appearances during his career, including three Nationals appearances, and was named All-Conference and Defensive Player of the Year during his career as a Royal. Valiente graduated from HIU with a bachelors degree in English and is currently working to complete his Masters in education at HIU. He enjoys the opportunity to pass on knowledge and skills to all of his athletes as well as the opportunity to mentor those who play on his teams.
