Doug Edgar

Head Coach

Edgar is entering his sixth season as the head track and field coach at Indiana Tech and eighth year overall with the program. He started with the Warriors as an assistant coach during in 2008 and took over the head coaching responsibilities for the 2010-11 campaign. During his tenure at Tech he has led the both programs to new heights nationally with eight NAIA National Championships between the two teams, the first teams in school history to win an NAIA National Championship. He has been at the helm for six men's national titles (three indoor, three outdoor) and two women's national titles (both outdoor). The men have won three straight indoor titles (2014-16) while capturing three of the last four outdoor titles (2013, 2014, 2016) and were four points short of winning the 2015 outdoor title. The women's two titles came in 2013 and 2014. Since the 2012-13 indoor campaign, neither team has finished worse than fourth at any national championship. The Warriors have been the class of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) as well, with eight men's titles (four indoor, four outdoor) and 11 women's titles (six indoor, five outdoor) since Edgar took over as head coach. The men haven't lost a conference championship since the 2011-12 season, while the women's run atop the WHAC was stopped this past season at the outdoor championships. While at Tech, he has coached 401 All-Americans (191 Indoor, 210 Outdoor) between the two programs while 502 athletes have garnered All-Conference accolades (217 Indoor, 285 Outdoor). Coach Edgar is USATF level 2 certified in the sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps. In 2012 he was named an Emerging Elite Coach by USA Track and Field (USATF). This distinction gained him a scholarship to a weeklong camp at the USA Olympic Training center in Chula Vista, California. Edgar also has a sprints, hurdles and relays certificate from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Before coming to Indiana Tech, Edgar started his coaching career at Concordia Lutheran High School. He spent the next three seasons at Muncie South High School as the cross country and track coach. While at Muncie South he helped guide the Rebels to the first regional cross country championship in school history. Additionally, on the track he helped lead his team to back-to-back sectional championships for the first time in school history. During his time at Muncie South he coached state qualifiers in the 4x200, 4x400, 55 meter dash, 100 meter dash, high jump and long jump. In his athletic career, Edgar was a three-time All-State runner at Concordia Lutheran High School. He still owns the school record as part of the sprint medley and 4x400 relay teams. Edgar was also a two-time qualifier as part of the 3200 meter relay team. He went on to attend Anderson University (Ind.) where he was a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) champion as part of the 4x400 meter relay and individually was runner-up in the open 400. Edgar currently lives in Fort Wayne with his wife Samantha, and his four children, daughters Addyson and Elodie, and sons Bohden and Ezekiel.
