Wurtzman as the 15th head coach of the Hoosier men's tennis program on Wednesday December 10, 2014. Wurtzman's background includes a successful collegiate and professional playing career and experience as a head coach.  In the 2015-16 season the Hoosiers finished fifth in the Big Ten conference standings as they won their last five conference matches of the season. Senior Sam Monette earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and was selected the Ohio Valley Region Player of the Year. Wurtzman came to Michigan in the summer of 2013 and helped the Wolverines to a 16-13 record and NCAA tournament appearance this past year. A native of Rochester, N.Y., Wurtzman arrived in Ann Arbor after a successful four-year head coaching tenure with the University of Denver women's tennis program (2009-13). The 2013 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Wurtzman guided Denver to one of the most successful seasons in program history, leading the Pioneers to an 18-4 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play. Prior to taking the helm at Denver, Wurtzman spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Ohio State, helping the Buckeyes men's tennis program to the Big Ten regular-season championship, the Big Ten Tournament title and an NCAA finals appearance against USC.  Wurtzman began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the University of Denver men's tennis team for two seasons (2006-08). During his first stint with the Pioneers, Denver posted a 31-14 record (.689), qualified for its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, achieved its highest team ranking of No. 37 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.  Wurztman enjoyed a successful professional playing career on the ATP World Tour, earning a top-30 American professional singles ranking, captured nine pro circuit doubles titles and was a three-time pro circuit singles finalist.  Ohio State's first tennis athlete to win an ITA individual championship, Wurtzman went on to win the 2003 ITA Midwest Regional crown before earning the No. 1 singles ranking the following season in 2004. After compiling 42 singles and 30 doubles victories in 2004, Wurtzman was named an All-American, the 2004 ITA/Farnsworth National Senior Player of the Year (co-honoree) and the Midwest Region IV Senior Player of the Year.  A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Wurtzman finished his collegiate career with a 132-45 singles record and an 86-49 doubles record. Wurtzman received his bachelor's degree in Science of Human Ecology from Ohio State in 2008. Wurtzman, 31, and his wife, Gretchen, have two daughters, Quinn (3) and Maya (23 months). Mike Murray

Associate Head Coach

Murray helped guide the Pirates to a 34-13 record over that span including a first time appearance in the seminfinals of the conference tournament in 2014, a first ever win over a top-50 program (No. 44 Elon on April 12), and a first ever final national ranking at 73. In 2013 he helped two student-athletes earn an invitation to the NCAA Doubles Championship. A year later, Murray helped another Pirate win the 2014 Conference USA Player-of-the-Year Award and an invitation to the 2014 NCAA Singles Championship. Prior to ECU, Murray spent five years as the head boy's and girl's varsity tennis coach at Forsyth Country Day School in Winston-Salem, N.C. In his time there, he created year-round programs for players of all ages and skill levels as well as a tennis academy. Murray graduated from Wake Forest in 2003 after a four-year playing career. He ranks among the Deacons' all-time top 10 in singles and doubles victories. He set the Demon Deacons' freshman singles record with a team-high 26 wins. The following year he finished as ACC No. 2 Flight runner-up and ranked as high as No. 60 in the ITA individual rankings. He finished his collegiate career with 28 singles wins in 2003.
