Nick Cavataro
Head Coach
Cavataro in an elite group of Division 1 coaches with 300 or more career victories. While at Iona, Cavataro was named Coach of the Year in 1987 and 1989, while guiding Gael swimmers to break every school record at least three times. The team also has qualified over 100 for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swim Championship Meet qualifiers and six Senior National qualifiers. In 2012, 12 became the first Gael swimmer to achieve an NCAA qualification standard with her MAAC Championship and school record in the 100-Breaststroke of 1:01.0. Cavataro has also made an impact nationally, serving as a successful United States Swimming Coach and a USS Select Camp Coach at Colorado Springs in 1995, 1998 and 2001. He has also served as the director of the Gael Aquatic Club, a successful USS club with 175 members, and as the senior coach with the Greenwich (CT) Dolphins. Cavataro has had his USA athletes compete at the 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympic Trials, as well as 16 consecutive years of coaching swimmers at USS Senior and Junior National Short and Long Course Championships and the recent USS Eastern Sectional Championships. Cavataro has also been a panel speaker at both the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) and College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) annual clinics and has been a member of the Board of Directors of Connecticut Swimming, Inc., Metropolitan Swimming, Inc. and the Westchester County Swimming Conference. Cavataro is an ASCA Level 4 Coach and is a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Water Safety, First Aid and CPR Instructor. Coach Cavataro graduated in 1977 from Manhattan College, with a BA in Economics and was a three-time All-Metro selection and an ECAC qualifier. He resides in Greenwich, Connecticut with his wife Susan and six children: Stephanie, 26; Lauren, 25; Matthew, 22; Kristi, 20, Jamey, 16, and Kathryn, 14

Anthony Bruno
Assistant Coach
Bruno as assistant coach for both squads in June 2013. Bruno comes to Iona after serving as assistant coach at Division III Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. During his time at Wesleyan, the Cardinals broke multiple individual records for on both sides and every relay record on the womens side. The team also went from one individual NCAA provisional qualifier to having seven women record NCAA B time standards in 2013. Coach Bruno worked with all groups during his time at Wesleyan but focused primarily on the sprinters. Coach Bruno was also apart of recruiting efforts during his time with the Cardinals as both squads climbed to the top the conference the last three seasons. Coach Bruno has also been active on the club level as a member of the Cheshire YMCA/Sea Dog Swim Club staff. At Cheshire, Anthony worked with multiple Olympic trail qualifiers, YMCA national champions and multiple swimming top 16 athletes. Before coming back to his home state of Connecticut, Bruno served as assistant swim coach and assistant aquatics director at Gulliver Prep in Miami, Florida. Bruno is a 2009 graduate of Springfield College where he was a school record holder and a two-time honorable mention All-American selection. Earning honorable-mention All-America honors as part of the Prides 200 medley relay and 400 free relay, Tony was part of two school-record performances and came through with first-team and second-team all-NEWMAC honors at the conference meet during his career. He also was a team captain as a senior. Anthony Bruno is entering his fourth season as the assistant coach for the Iona College men's and women's swimming & diving programs.
