Irvine Valley College Men's Golf

Burnett a winner of multiple conference coach of the year awards at Irvine Valley. He has produced competitive golf squads, utilizing a philosophy of recruiting, rather than tryouts for players. His goal for women's golf at IVC was to have a program that is recognized as one of the best in the state. Burnett believes he has accomplished this goal. The 2014 team finished second in the Orange Empire Conference and led the Southern California Regionals after the first day. Captains Cindy Dang and Leleaga Meredith qualified to the CCCAA State Championships for the second straight year. Meredith ran away from the field with scores of 75 and 72 over the two-day tournament to win the individual state title. Meredith is now playing on scholarship at Division 1 Grand Canyon University. The 2012 team went undefeated and won the Orange Empire Conference regional and California Community College State Championship. Sally Kim was named the conference player of the year and all-state for the Lasers. The 2010 squad won the conference title, placing all but one of its six starters on the all-conference team, and then went on to capture the program's first state title. Top player of the 2010 squad Nicole Rivera was named back-to-back conference player of the year and first team all-state two years in a row. Rivera's success, including being named Southern California player of the year, attracted contacts from several Division I golf programs, including Big Ten Conference and NCAA Champion Purdue. She recently signed with Cal State Fullerton. Other Division I program's Burnett has had contact with include UNLV, Arkansas, Pepperdine and San Diego State. Burnett has helped send numerous Irvine Valley players on to four-year schools to continue their golf careers. Burnett credits the success of the IVC program to his continued support from swing coach Alan Ochai, mental coach Dr. David Wright and putting expert Jason Goldsmith. He has also developed relationships with former U.S. Open winner Sandra Palmer and LPGA Tour Commissioner Michael Whan.
