Secord, a former team captain and most valuable player for the Dukes, enters his 23rd season as the Dukes' head coach. Last season, JMU posted a 9-12 record and wrapped up the year with a 4-1 loss to second-seeded College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association Tennis Championship quarterfinals. He helped Sebastian Salinas to his second consecutive All-CAA Second Team Singles honor while Tristan Stitt and Maxi Branth earned All-CAA Second Team Doubles laurels. In 2014-15, JMU sported an 8-11 record, including a four-match win-streak bridging March and April. He guided Robert Stirling to All-CAA First Team Singles recognition while Salinas earned second team honors. Salinas and fellow captain Miljan Ruzic earned All-CAA Second Team Doubles accolades.   During the 2009-10 season, Mike Smith and Matt King ranked as high as 38th nationally by ITAtennis.com, compiling a record of 23-11 with a 10-2 showing in the fall. The duo went on to take two tournament titles, going 3-0 at the Georgetown Invitational and 4-0 in the flight A doubles draw at the Old Dominion Invitational.  Their play earned them a spot on the All-CAA third team doubles. Smith was also honored on the CAA's singles second team. Tommi Nissinen was named to the All-CAA third team after a 25-9 record in singles play, including a 18-6 mark during spring dual matches.   In 2003, under the guidance of Secord, Mike Hendricksen was named to the CAA second team.  In 2002, he directed Andrew Lux and Troy Stone into the main draw finals of the National Indoor Region II Championships.  Jesse Tarr and Mike Smith were named to the CAA third team in doubles during the 2007 spring season and were ranked 15th in the Mideast Region.  They were named to the All-CAA second team in 2008. During the 2009 season, Jared Robinson was honored on the All-CAA second team singles for the second-straight year, one year after being named the 2008 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year.  On the doubles side, Matt King and Mike Smith were named to the second team doubles. In 2006, John Snead and Tarr were named to the CAA third team in doubles during the spring season while also being named CAA doubles team of the week.   During his tenure, JMU has produced members of the All-CAA team, achieved team and individual regional rankings, and produced a Verizon Academic All-America First Team honoree.   Secord played for JMU from 1987-91 and helped lead the Dukes to the CAA title in 1989 and 1991 and second-pace finishes in 1987 and 1990.  He posted career records of 67-34 in singles and 63-34 in doubles competition and captured the No. 1 doubles title at the 1990 CAA Championship Tournament along with partner Marc Brix.  During Secords tenure as a player, JMU amassed a 55-27 record in dual matches.   Secord, who received a degree in psychology from JMU in 1991, was a two-time Virginia High School League Group AAA state champion for Potomac High School in Dumfries.  More recently, Secord claimed the singles championship at the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record Tournament in 1995, 2005, and 2006. Prior to his coaching career, Secord served as the tennis professional at the Valley Wellness Center in Harrisonburg, and he also has been an assistant pro both at Montclair Country Club in Dumfries and at the Willow Oaks Country Club in Richmond.
