Diego Cevallos
Head Coach
Cevallos has consistently scheduled, played and more often than not, defeated some of the nation's top quality squads. Over the past six seasons, the Judson Lady Eagles have played several nationally ranked teams and defeated one NCAA Division I opponent. The 2012 campaign was one of a slight disappointment for Cevallos and his club. After a devastating 2-1 defeat by Robert Morris in the CCAC semi-final round, the Lady Eagles were stunned to not find themselves back in the NAIA National Tournament. Instead, the 2012 season was highlighted by Cevallos coaching the NCCAA Player of the Year, Jenna Schiller, who became the first Judson female athlete to be granted the prestigious award. Cevallos led his squad to a 19-6 finish with a 9-2 record in the CCAC - good for a second place in the final standings. In 2011, for the first time in program history, Cevallos led his team to a share of the CCAC regular season title with a 16-3-2 (9-1) mark and solidified a spot in the NAIA National Tournament for the first time in program history. Cevallos was named CCAC Coach of the Year and had four All-CCAC mentions on the squad including CCAC Freshman of Year, Jenna Steffensen. The campaign was capped off by an exciting shoot-out against #18 Trinity Christian where the Lady Eagles found the victory notching the win 2-0 in PKs. But the season ended prematurely as #8 Embry-Riddle blanked the Lady Eagles 1-0 in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament. Judson did finish with a final ranking of 13th - the highest in program history. The 2010 season brought a year of rebuilding after losing the program's all-time goals and points leader in Christina Thornton. Judson played seven teams that were either ranked or receiving votes in the National Poll. One of the best matches of the year came vs. #14 Robert Morris which ended in a 0-0 double overtime. Robert Morris went on to finish in the FInal Four of the National Tournament. Sara Hoffman collected 16 saves and was named the and National Player of the Week for her play. Judson ended the regular season with a 2-1 win that propelled them into the final spot of the Tournament where they fell to #23 Trinity Christian, 1-0. In 2009, Judson won 14 games, received votes in the National Poll, and made the programs fourth appearance in the National Tournament where they finished in third place in Cevallos' second season at the realm. He continued to challenge his program by playing atleast nine teams that were receiving votes or ranked in the National Poll. He also had the Freshman of the Year (Kamila Marchi) and All-American Christina Thornton. The 14 wins were also one shy of tying the program record for wins. Entering his fourth year as an assistant coach for both the Judson University men's and women's soccer program, Rafael Heck is a great addition to the staff having played for Judson for two years. Heck has helped guide this program to continue to be one of the elite women's soccer teams in the nation. With a rich history in soccer, Rafael Heck was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but he grew up in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His relation with soccer started even before he was born. His dad, João Heck, is a former professional soccer player from Brazil. He played for "Bahia Esporte Clube" (1stDivision Team) for several years, and Rafa inherited that same level of talent. Rafa has played soccer since his very young age, and he started playing for professional youth academies in Brazil at the age of ten. He had a dream to become a professional soccer player like his dad, but he decided to take another path a year before going pro. He recognized the difficulty of maintaining a professional soccer career in Brazil due to the large amounts of talent, and decided to pursue a college education instead. He went to college in Brazil for a few years before moving to the USA to play college soccer and finish school. He played two seasons for Oklahoma Baptist University before transferring to Judson to complete his college soccer career and education. As a coach, Rafa has coached youth teams and soccer camps in many countries, including Brazil, Italy, Canada, and here in the United States. At the end of his college soccer career at Judson, he became the Eagle's Assistant Coach in the fall of 2011 for both the Men and Women's soccer programs. He also currently coaches U9 and U10 girls with the Crystal Lake Force youth club in Crystal Lake, IL. His previous coaching experience beyond his current roles include the following roles: Thunder Bay Chill Thunder Bay, ON Canada Coach of Boys U-14 and a range of ages (U-6 to U-14) during the soccer camps.
