Kathy Milliken

Head Coach

Milliken completed her 13th season as head mens and womens swimming coach in 2015-16. During that time, the teams have set a high standard in the pool, classroom, and community.  During Millikens tenure, the womens team has set 85 varsity records, while the men have recorded new marks 49 times. Those swims also accounted for new conference records 36 times and new NCAA DIII records twice. At Kalamazoo, she has coached athletes to 79 All-American performances and three individual NCAA titles. Her mens team placed 4th at NCAAs in 2010, where she was the first female in a mens sport to be awarded NCAA Coach of the Year honors.  The team has also performed extremely well in the classroom, earning CSCAA Team Academic Honors during all 13 of her years. She has also coached five NCAA Postgraduate scholars and many CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. In addition to coaching, Milliken also serves as Senior Woman Administrator and Assistant Athletics Director at Kalamazoo. In this role, she heads staff and student education and enhancement opportunities. She also serves as a faculty member and aquatics director. Milliken earned her masters degree from Western Michigan University in 2006 and her bachelor's degree from Denison University in 1999, where she served as team captain and was a seven-time NCAA Division III All-American. Before coming to Kalamazoo, she was an assistant swim coach at Denison for three years and helped coach the women to a national title in 2001. Milliken lives in Kalamazoo with her husband, Greg (also a collegiate swimmer), and their two children, Abby, age 8 (a club swimmer), and Jacob, age 5. Getting to know Coach Milliken Hobbies/Interests: Triathlons, Running, Traveling Favorite Part about Coaching: Having the opportunity to have a positive influence with young adults in a setting that I love. Favorite Song: Anything my kids come up with. Favorite Music Artist: Jacob Milliken - my 4 year old son. Favorite Food: Scallops and seafood pasta. Did you know 1) I love to swim with wildlife - sharks, seals, sea lions, stingrays, turtles, fish, lobster, crabs, and shrimp. I want to swim with a whale shark in the wild some day. 2) I have been to every state except Maine and Rhode Island.

Jay Daniels

Assistant Coach

Daniels brings a combination of familiarity with the Hornet swimming program and a resume of previous coaching success at the Division III level. Before joining Kalamazoo as an assistant, he served as the assistant swimming coach at SUNY New Paltz, a nationally competitive program at the Division III level. Daniels assisted with all aspects of the program at New Paltz, including meet preparation, event management, fundraising and recruiting. Daniels assisted the program for two seasons, and was influential in the successful recruitment of 37 student-athletes during that time. In addition to his coaching experience at SUNY New Paltz, Daniels served as a coach at New Paltz Swim Camp, Hartwick College Swim Camp and Kalamazoo College Swim Camp. He currently resides in Kalamazoo.

Kyle Oberhill

Coach

Oberhill completed his third season as mens and womens diving coach in 2011-2012. Oberhill competed as a Hornet diver as a member of the 2002 and 2003 MIAA championship teams and also competed at the NCAA Championships in 2002.  Oberhill has been coaching diving in the Kalamazoo area since 2003 with several organizations including Hackett Catholic Central High School, Mattawan High School, and Kalamazoo Central High School, as well as the West Michigan Diving Association club diving program.  In addition, Oberhill has worked with several world-class Olympic diving coaches at camps and clinics including former University of Michigan diving coach, Dick Kimball, current Indiana University diving coach, Dr. Jeff Huber, and former USA Diving National Training Center head coach, John Wingfield. Oberhill completed his masters degree in Coaching Sport Performance at Western Michigan University in 2012. Mens Team Accomplishments: Helped guide the Hornet men's team to an MIAA championship in 2011. The Hornets repeated as league champions in 2012 and finished 13th overall at the NCAA Championships. In 2012, freshman William Guedes earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships which resulted in an All-American performance by placing fifth on 1M and an honorable mention All-American performance by placing 11th on 3M. Guedes was the first male diver to compete at the NCAA Championships since 2003. In 2013, sophomore William Guedes won the NCAA III championship in the 3M event. Guedes also finished third in the 1M and was named NCAA III Diver of the Year. Guedes won both events at the MIAA Championships and was recognized as MIAA Diver of the Year. Sophomore Elliot Litman finished second in both events at the MIAA Championships and competed in both events at the NCAA III Championships. Womens Team Accomplishments: In 2012, senior Erin Campbell earned her first trip to the NCAA Championships which resulted in an All-American performance by placing sixth on 1M and an honorable mention All-American performance by placing 12th on 3M. Campbell was the first female diver to compete at the NCAA Championships in over a decade.
