Brent Bailey

Head Coach

Bailey arrived at Kansas Wesleyan four years ago with just one runner on the cross country team. In four years Bailey has taken this program to the top, coaching 43 KCAC All Conference performances along with 16 NAIA National Qualifiers. In 2013, Bailey was named the Womens Cross Country Coach of the Year after his womens team won the conference title. Starting off his 5th year at Wesleyan, he will bring in the largest cross country roster in school history with teams on both sides capable of making runs to the NAIA National Championship. His focus has been on distance running, but with the completion of the new stadium Bailey is expanding his program to incorporate sprinters and jumpers with the help of his assistant coach Jeremy Gathright.   Bailey came to Kansas Wesleyan after spending two years as a graduate assistant coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. Baileys emphasis at Baker was coaching the distance athletes where he coached 73 All-Heart of America Conference selections in track and 9 All-Heart of America Conference selections in cross country. Bailey also coached a ninth place finisher in the womens marathon at the NAIA National Championships while coaching at Baker and helped the Wildcat women qualify for the NAIA Cross Country National Championships for the first time in several seasons, after winning the Heart of America Championship for the first time since 2002.   A native of Limon, Colo., Bailey attended McPherson College in McPherson, Kan., where he earned dual degrees in Physical Education and Business Administration with minors in Accounting and Finance. While at McPherson, Bailey was elected and served as the student body president. On the course and on the track for the Bulldogs, Bailey was a four-time All-KCAC performer in cross country and qualified for the NAIA National Championships. He was also a KCAC champion in the 1500 m and earned All-KCAC honors ten times. Bailey also continued his education at Baker University where he earned his Master of Liberal Arts degree.   During his prep career at Limon High School, Bailey was a state champion and helped his track team to back-to-back Colorado state team titles. He also ran club track with the Colorado Springs Striders, where he competed at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in the 4x800m relay and the 2000 m steeplechase. Bailey is a USATF Level 2 certified coach and continues to train and compete on an elite level: three time qualifier for the USA Duathlon National Championships and USA Triathlon National Championships.    This fall brings a new excitement that I have never felt before. The depth mixed with the leadership on this team is a coachs dream. Bringing in junior college national qualifiers along with bringing back Kara Reimer who was instrumental in our 2013 conference title seems almost too good to be true. Of our five regular season meets, four will be contested out of the state to make sure we are tested and ready to take care of business in November. This is the largest cross country team in school history, and I know this is going to be a special season.   Brent Bailey has been the Cross Country and Track coach at Kansas Wesleyan University since August 2011.   Coach Bailey arrived at Kansas Wesleyan four years ago with just one runner on the cross country team.
