Coach
After taking over the full-time assistant role in the summer of 2023, Paul Wise has served as assistant coach for the Denison women's soccer team for two seasons. Wise has served as a part-time men’s assistant coach and goalkeeper coach at Denison since 2016. Following Denison’s successful 2021 season that saw the Big Red win the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship for the third time in program history and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009, Coach Wise and the rest of the Denison coaching staff were honored as the United Soccer Coaches Men’s Region VII Coaching Staff of the Year. During the 2022 season, Wise worked as the goalkeeper coach for both the Big Red men’s and women’s programs. He then helped oversee the Spring 2023 season for the Denison women’s team while the search for a new head coach took place. Then in Coach Wise' first season as the program's full-time assistant women's soccer coach in 2023, Denison women's soccer went 8-5-6 overall while winning the fifth North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in program history and making the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. In 2024, the Denison coaching staff picked up NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors. This marked the 10th coaching award in program history. Denison to a 10-5-3 overall record in 2024 and put together a 5-1-1 mark to capture the NCAC's regular season title for a 12th time in program history. The Big Red posted some dominant numbers in conference play. In league play, Denison topped the NCAC with 41 points (14 goals, 13 assists) and posted a league-low 0.29 goals-against average after allowing just two goals and recording five shutouts. Six members of the Big Red earned All-NCAC including First Team picks Kate Dalimonte, Mara McGlone and Sarah Sollinger. Wise has worked for Newark Area Soccer since 2010, where he has most recently held roles of Xtabi Girls’ Director and Tournament Director. He currently coaches an NPL (National Premier League) level U19 boys’ team and is an ODP (Olympic Development Program) State Team Coach with the Ohio Soccer Association. From 2009 to 2018, Wise was an Academy Soccer Coach and Camp Director with Challenger Sports in New England, Canada and Ohio. He has also served as a volunteer assistant coach with the Newark High School girls’ soccer team (2015-21) and has coached with Southampton FC’s Academy in England. Wise received a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in football (soccer) studies from Southampton Solent University (United Kingdom) in 2009.
