Kim Muhl

Head Coach

Muhl has led teams to 23 regional finals, 16 national tournaments and 6 national titles. He has produced 22 consecutive 20-win seasons in basketball, including a school record 37 wins in 2009-2010. In 1990, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002-2010 and 2012 Muhl was named Region XI Coach of the Year. His teams won regional basketball titles those same years. Muhl's basketball teams have been regional runner-up six times. He was named "Outstanding Coach of the Tournament" at the 1997, 2002, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 NJCAA Division II National Tournaments. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) named Muhl the Russell Athletic 2007 JC/CC Coach of the Year. Coach Muhl received his greatest award in 2011 by being selected into the "NJCAA Women's Basketball Hall of Fame" as 1 of 2 active coaches. He currently sports a 792-174 record, including a phenomenal 344-31 record at home. From 2006 until February 2011 his teams have won 106 straight conference games. He has coached 25 All-Americans including 14 First Team All-Americans and 5 WBCA All-Americans. Coach Muhl holds the NJCAA DII women's record of 39 straight wins. Muhl has attracted regional and national attention for Eagle programs. The women's basketball teams have been ranked #1 in the NJCAA Division II polls on several occasions. Four-year colleges have been regular visitors to Kirkwood's campus. Former Kirkwood players under Muhl have gone on to play at Iowa, Iowa State, Northern Iowa, Oregon, South Florida, Drake, Illinois State, Southwest Missouri State, St. Johns, Stetson, Marquette and various NCAA Division II and NAIA schools. Coach Muhl earned his BA at William Penn College in Oskaloosa, IA and his MA in Secondary Education at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY.   Jen is entering her 9th season as an assistant coach with the Eagles. She has helped 2 teams to national titles in '09 and '10, along with a 5th place finish in '15.  During her high school career both her Freshman and Sophomore years, her team went undefeated with a 46-0 record. As a Senior she helped her team to an Elite 8 finish and still holds the record for 3-point percentage at 42%. Jen played two seasons (2002-2004) with Kirkwood helping them to two national tournaments including a 3rd place finish in 2004. Jen then transferred to Morningside College where she scored 693 career points and made 134 three-point field goals while helping Morningside win a national championship in 2005.  She earned her BS in Business Management and is currently employed in the Recreation Center at Kirkwood. Natalie is entering her 1 season at Kirkwood. She attended Dubuque Senior High School (2001-2005). As a freshman she was a unanimous pick for 2 Team All-District in Northeast Iowa class 4A and 2 Team All-Conference of the Mississippi Valley (MVC). Her sophomore year she was 1 Team All-District and 1 Team All-Conference. As a junior she was selected as the Telegraph Herald Player of the Year, 1 team All-District, 1 team All-Conference and 2 team All-State in Iowa. Her senior year she averaged 25 points and 9 rebounds per game, awarded MVP of the Mississippi Valley Conference, Telegraph Herald Co-Player of the Year, MVP of the Goal Setter All-Star game, 1 team All-District, 1 team All-Conference, and 1 team All-State. She ended her career with 1,569 points. She continued on to play at Division 1 San Jose State University (2005-2009). As a Lady Spartan she finished her career ranked 7th in school history for scoring (1,229), holds the free-throw percentage record (.820), 4 in 3-Point Field Goals Made (164), 3 in games played (118). She received a Bachelor of Arts in Radio, Television and Film with a minor in Communications. Natalie is currently working at the Kirkwood print shop/marketing.
