Ray Hoffman

Head Coach

Hoffman enters his 19th season with the Kutztown University cross country and track & field programs in 2016-17. This is his 19th season as the cross country head coach, and 11th season as the track & field head coach.   CROSS COUNTRY   In cross country, Hoffman has established KU's program as one of the best in the region. The women's team has earned seven trips to the NCAA Championship, including a best-ever 13th place finish in 2010. The Golden Bears had a 14th-place finish at nationals in 2009 after placing second at the NCAA Regionals. In women's cross country, Hoffman is a two-time USTFCCCA Regional Coach of the Year (2005, 2006), a two-time PSAC Coach of the Year (2000, 2006) and a two-time KU Athletics Women's Coach of the Year (2000-01, 2001-02).   In 18 cross country seasons, Hoffman's men's and women's runners have combined for 58 All-PSAC honors, 50 All-Region awards, one All-America honor, one PSAC individual title, one PSAC Athlete of the Year, four PSAC Freshman of the Year awards, 21 All-Academic Team awards, 70 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team individual awards, and one Academic All-American of the Year. Individually, Hoffman has guided seven individual national qualifiers five women and two men. His top women's finisher was 1999 All-American Megan Seefeldt, who finished 20th. On the men's side, both of Hoffman's qualifiers came within a three-year span, with his top finisher coming in 2015, when sophomore Steve Maine finished 72nd in his first National Championship.   As a team, the women's cross country team has made seven NCAA National Championship appearances under Hoffman (2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010). Most recently in 2010, KU finished second at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals to advance to the National Championships for the second consecutive season, where it finished 13th overall - the highest finish in school history.    In 2006, the women's team won the NCAA East Regional title, while the team also has a pair of runner-up finishes (2004 and 2009) and two PSAC runner-up places (2001, 2006) to its credit. Academically, the women's cross country team has been named an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA (3.0 GPA) in 17 of the last 18 years, including 2015.   TRACK AND FIELD   While at KU, Hoffman has played a vital role in the schools most successful era in track and field. During his tenure as an assistant coach, Kutztowns mens team won the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship three times (2000, 2001, 2002), finished as runners-up twice (1999, 2005), and took third place in the 2011-12 season. Including 2016, KU is in the midst of six consecutive top-five finishes at the Outdoor Championships. The KU womens outdoor team has won two PSAC crowns (2000, 2005) and finished as runners-up three times (2002, 2007, 2013). Indoors, the Golden Bear women won three-straight PSAC titles from 2004-06.   On the track, Hoffmans athletes have set 43 school records during the indoor and outdoor seasons. He has coached 115 PSAC Champions and 270 All-PSAC performers. Additionally, Hoffman was named the 2005 PSAC Womens Indoor Track and Field co-Coach of the Year. Hoffman guided nine athletes to Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship titles (1998-2002).   On the national level, he has had 113 NCAA qualifiers and 15 All-America performers. In the classroom, Hoffman's women's track & field teams have been named an All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA (3.0 GPA) for nine straight years (2008-16). He has had 18 student-athletes combine for 30 individual All-Academic awards as well (3.25 GPA). On the men's side, five student-athletes have combined for seven individual All-Academic awards since Hoffman's tenure as head coach began in 2006. His women's track & field and cross country teams set a program-record in back-to-back years with 27 PSAC Scholar-Athlete's in 2015 and 2016.   Hoffman was an assistant womens cross country and track and field coach at Clemson (1997-98). He helped guide the Tiger track and field team to second-place finishes at the indoor and outdoor Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championships. In addition, Hoffman coached two junior national qualifiers in the 1000 and 5000, guided his 4x1500 relay team to the seventh-fastest time in the nation, and broke school records in the 4x800 and 4x1500 relays.   Prior to Clemson, Hoffman was an assistant track and field and womens cross country coach at East Stroudsburg. He was named 1995 ECAC Womens Cross Country Coach of the Year. He guided the Warriors to two top-three finishes at the ECAC Cross Country Championships, and a consistent top-25 ranking in the country. Achievements by his student-athletes included a four-time All-American in cross country and track and an eight-time national qualifier. Hoffmans runners captured 18 ECAC and three PSAC titles in track & field, while his track runners set 10 school records and garnered 22 All-PSAC and 27 All-ECAC honors. He also coached the 1996 PSAC and ECAC individual cross country champion, and the top NCAA Division II American miler in 1997.   A 1994 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, Hoffman captained the Warriors cross country team as a senior and was a three-time All-ECAC performer in the 3,000 and distance medley relay. He also was an All-PSAC performer in the steeplechase.   Hoffman resides in Breinigsville, Pa., with his wife, Jan, and their sons, Brady (11) and Colby (6).   He holds a bachelors degree in psychology and earned his teacher certification in health and physical education from East Stroudsburg in 1994.

JaKia Gumby

Assistant Coach

Gumby enters her sixth season with the Kutztown University track and field team in 2016-17. Gumby joined the KU track & field coaching staff in 2011 and works primarily with the throwers. She is no stranger to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, having both coached and competed in the conference.   While at Kutztown, Gumby has coached five PSAC champions John Lowery, Nicole Wildermuth, Rosealine Farrell (two-time champion), and April Doyle, the first woman to win eight PSAC titles in one event.   In 2014, Gumby coached two PSAC outdoor champions and three All-PSAC throwers at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. In 2012-13, Gumby's athletes combined for seven top-three finishes at the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, including three PSAC champions. Gumby came to Kutztown after serving as a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock in 2009 and guided one PSAC champion in the throwing events. As an undergraduate, she competed at Lock Haven from 2005-09, and won the shot put at the 2008 PSAC Indoor Championships. Gumby holds both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in sports management.

Tim Hite

Assistant Coach

Hite enters his third season with the Kutztown University track and field team in 2016-17. Hite coaches long and short sprints at KU. In his first season in 2015, he guided the school-record-setting 4x100 women's outdoor team and six marks on KU's all-time top-10 lists. He followed in 2016 with indoor school-records in the women's 60m and 200m dashes.

Keith White

Assistant Coach

White enters his 11th season as the track and field assistant coach at Kutztown University in 2016-17. White works with the jumpers and hurdlers, as well as the KU multi events (decathlon & heptathlon).   While at Kutztown, White has coached two All-Americans: Cody Hartzler in the high jump in 2008, and Kori Meshaw in the 400 hurdles in 2012. He has also coached eight PSAC champions Cody Hartzler, Sean Gentry and Rachel Eshleman in the high jump, Anthony Bullaro in the 60m hurdles, Kori Meshaw in the 400 hurdles, Katie Catania and Richard Gatewood in the long jump, and Tyler Brooks in the triple jump.   In 2013-14, White's athletes won two PSAC Outdoor Championships and posted four All-PSAC performances. In 2012-13, his athletes combined for seven top-three finishes at the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, including three PSAC champions.   White came to Kutztown after a 26-year tenure coaching the track & field and cross country teams at Millersville University. While at Millersville, Whites team won the PSAC womens title four times, and he had cross country teams finished as high as seventh (women) and 16th (men) in NCAA national competition.   His athletes earned 28 All-America honors, and 68 PSAC individual championships while at Millersville.   White received his bachelors degree in education from Millersville in 1980.   Keith White Assistant Coach (Hurdles, Jumps, Multi Events) Keith White enters his 11th season as the track and field assistant coach at Kutztown University in 2016-17. White works with the jumpers and hurdlers, as well as the KU multi events (decathlon & heptathlon).   While at Kutztown, White has coached two All-Americans: Cody Hartzler in the high jump in 2008, and Kori Meshaw in the 400 hurdles in 2012. Tony Dodds

Assistant Coach

Dodds enters his 11th season on the KU coaching staff in 2016-17. He coaches the pole vaulters.  While at Kutztown, Dodds has coached four All-Americans (Will Hodges, Justin Germani, Lanny Buck and Emma Sullivan). He has also coached six PSAC champions - Kelly Strickland, Hodges, Germani, Percell Berry, Buck and Sullivan.   Dodds recently graduated two PSAC Champions and school-record holders. On the men's side, Buck was a two-time PSAC Champion, three-time NCAA national qualifier and 2015 All-American. On the women's side, Sullivan was a PSAC Indoor Champion, a two-time national qualifier, a 2016 All-American and the school-record holder both indoors and outdoors. In 2012-13, his athletes combined for four top-three finishes at the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships. In 2011, he coached Germani to a ninth place finish at the NCAA Division II Championships and had two other student-athletes tie for second at the PSAC Championships. He also coached the PSAC runner-up on the women's side, Rachel Schaefer, at the conference outdoor championships in 2011.
