Aplin came back to LaGrange after serving as the head coach for the Troup County Sharks swim team. With the Sharks, he was able to double the team's roster size in three months. He coached all of the athletes to lifetime best times in each of their events within four months of taking over the team. Aplin was a graduate assistant for the Panthers during the 2012-13 season. The team set 11 new school records, while setting 39 of 41 personal bests over the course of the season. He helped recruit the largest team roster in the program's history, while developing workout regimens for both in and out of the pool. Aplin is a 2011 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in psychology. At Kentucky, he was a two-year member of the swim team and was the top men's scorer at the 2011 Southeastern Conference swim championships. He finished his career at Kentucky with the school's fourth fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke and 10th fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle. "We look forward to what Chip will bring to our swimming teams and our aquatics programs," said college President Dan McAlexander. "His passion for his sport and for preparing young men and women to become successful, responsible citizens will be invaluable as we strive to fulfill our vision of transforming the lives of our students and our community." Aplin started his collegiate career at Darton College in Albany, Ga., where he was a 13-time All-American and currently holds six school records. At the 2009 National Junior College Athletic Association championships, he was the top men's scorer. He also holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree from LaGrange College.
