Jessica Steward
Assistant Coach
Steward was named Lamar University womens golf coach July 2, 2015, and immediately made an impact, leading LU to the 2016 Southland Conference Championship title, and earning Southland Conference Coach of the Year accolades. Steward comes to Beaumont after spending the previous seven seasons as the womens head coach at IPFW where she guided the Mastodon program to its most successful run in school history. IPFW continued its improvement under Stewards guidance culminating in record-setting seasons her final two years. The Mastodons recorded the lowest stroke average in program history during the 2013-14 season, and posted their highest finish at the Summit League Championships. IPFW followed that up by setting a new school record for low stroke average this past year. Stewards teams accounted for four of the top-five team scores in school history for 18, 36 and 54 holes. During the 2013-14 campaign, Steward coached IPFW to its first tournament win in program history at the 2014 Bulldog Florida Invitational, along with the programs first individual medalist in Brenna Sherwood. Under Stewards guidance, former IFPW golfer Allison Curtis set an all-time program record for lowest season average, and Ashton Taft became the first Mastodon womens golfer named to the Summit League All-Tournament team. A certified LPGA golf instructor, Stewards athletes have also proven themselves in the classroom. She has coached 12 WGCA Academic All-Americans through the 2013-14 season, and has four athletes who were nominated for those honors following the 2014-15 campaign. IPFW was recognized for posting one of the top-10 team GPAs in the country following the 2012-13 season. In addition to her role as golf coach at IPFW, Steward was also active in the community. She established an annual scholarship donation and increased the programs presence within the Fort Wayne community. Originally from Mystic, Conn., Steward played high school golf on the boys team at Fitch Senior High School. She won the New England High School Girls Championship, and was named all-state and All-New England during her senior season. A former team captain, Steward was named Academic All-ACC while recording the lowest two and three-round tournament scores in program history as a junior. Steward graduated with a bachelors degree from the University of Miami in 2008. She has completed work toward a masters degree in organizational leadership and higher education administration.
