Steve Navarro
Coach
Navarro is in his 19th year as Head Cross-Country Coach/Instructor at Las Positas College. He established the program in 1996. A current runner, bicyclist and hiker, Coach Navarro ran at Banning High School in the tough L.A. City School District and finished 6th in the 800 or ½ Mile Race and 5th in the Mile Relay Race. After HS, he received a State Scholarship and a partial Track and Field/Cross-Country scholarship to Chapman University. He was a Certified Athletic Trainer for over 34 years. After receiving his BA in Sports Medicine from Chapman, he went on to receive a Masters in Exercise Science from CSU Long Beach. At Las Positas, the teams have had great successes finishing in the top 10 in the State Championships three times and second in the Coast Conference five times. LPC cross country has had two Conference Champion individual runners on the mens team and over 40 medals won at the Conference Championships for men and women. What might be the biggest accomplishment in the program is the fact that, Las Positas runners have twice been selected as the top recipient of the California Community College Scholar Team Award. One of the teams had the highest G.P.A. of any team and or any sport in the state. Many runners have received scholarships and scholarship offers in recent years, and that should not change any time soon.
