Scott Marzolino

Head Coach

Scott Marzolino became the second golf coach in Lawrence Tech history, as he was named Josh Heiple's successor on June 1, 2018. Marzolino took over a women's program that finished in the top three in the conference during its first four years of competition.   During the 2024-2025 golf season,  LTU Women's Golf - Marzolino led his Women's team to four first place finishes, and four top-5 finishes. The women entered the WHAC Championships as the #1 seed and finished with the first WHAC title in school history!  At the conference tournament, Eng Vetchayanvivat and Cadance Beuckelare were named All-Conference First Team, Claire Hollingsworth and Alix Schickele were named All-Conference Second Team and Gretchen Ullrich earned Champion of Character honors. Vetchayanvivat also earned WHAC Golfer of the Year honors!  Coach Marzolino was named 2025 WHAC Coach of the Year for the first time on the women's side!  Beuckelare, Alanna Makarchuk, Schickele, Ella Smith, Ullrich and Vetchayanvivat all earned Academic All-WHAC honors as well and the overall team earned a GPA of 3.41! - The 2024-2025 campaign saw the LTU women compete in the NAIA National Championships in Ypsilanti, Michigan, their first nationals appearance in LTU history. While the team missed the cut and wrapped up their season there. Eng Vetchayanvivat was the top finisher for the Blue Devils in the event, earning 3rd Team All-American honors! LTU Men's Golf - Marzolino led his Men's team to four first place finishes, and two top-5 finishes. The men entered the WHAC Championships as the #2 seed and were successful to bring home the conference championship for the fourth time in the last five years!  At the conference tournament, Liam McEvoy and Martin Wing were named All-Conference First Team, Thiago Ormachea was named All-Conference Second Team and Evan Starrs earned Champion of Character honors. McEvoy also earned WHAC Golfer of the Year honors!  Coach Marzolino was named 2025 WHAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time in the last five years. Richard Bramley, Caden Gloss, Santiago Herrero, Liam McEvoy and Francisco Mustico earned Academic All-WHAC honors as well and the overall team earned a GPA of 3.47! - The 2024-2025 campaign saw the LTU men compete in the NAIA National Championships in Silvis, Illinois, their fourth nationals appearance in LTU history. While the team missed the cut by a mere 10 shots and wrapped up their season there. Liam McEvoy and Martin Wing were the top finishers for the Blue Devils in the event! Before coming to LTU, Marzolino spent 13 years at the helm of the Madonna University women’s golf program, where coincidently he was their second-ever head coach. He guided the Crusaders to four WHAC championships (2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013), while being named WHAC Coach of the Year four times (2009, 2012, 2013 and 2015). Following the 2014-15 regular season, Marzolino was also tabbed as the WHAC’s Coach of Character for displaying the NAIA’s five core values of respect, responsibility, servant leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship after a vote of his fellow coaches.  At Madonna, Michelle Hall became the schools' first WHAC individual champion under Marzolino’s coaching, winning the crown twice (2010, 2011-12) before freshman Karen Zambrano earned WHAC Newcomer of the Year honors under Marzolino's guidance in 2015-16.   Academically, Marzolino's student-athletes have earned over two dozen NAIA Scholar-Athlete awards while being named to the WHAC All-Academic Team 19 times during his tenure. Marzolino was elected as the WHAC women’s golf chair in 2007 and has held that post ever since, serving as the link between the WHAC executive committee and his fellow coaches.   A 1990 graduate of Grand Valley State University, Marzolino earned his master's degree from Wayne State University in 1993 and has continued his executive education at Tulane University in 2003 as well as at the University of Notre Dame in 2008. He currently works for Dell.   Marzolino and his wife Dina have three daughters. Oscar Olejniczak

Head Coach

Oscar Olejniczak, or "Coach O" as he is known to his student-athletes, has built a solid reputation for himself in both the high school and college coaching circles. In 2024, he begins a new chapter as LTU's offensive coordinator. Olejniczak held assistant coaching jobs at Michigan State, Wayne State and Campbell universities--the latter a Football Championship Series program in North Carolina where he was the offensive coordinator. Landing back home in Metro Detroit in the 2010s, “Coach O” led successful high school teams in the Catholic League at Detroit U-D Jesuit and Royal Oak Shrine. When current Blue Devils head coach Scott Merchant was the head coach at U-D Jesuit, Coach O ran the Cubs' offense for Merchant--reuniting in Southfield. Olejniczak played at Central Michigan University in the 1990s.

Head Coach

Lawrence Tech University has announced the appointment of [Oscar Olejniczak](https://ltuathletics.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/oscar-olejniczak/546) as the new Head Coach for its football program, the Blue Devils. Starting from February 17, 2025, Olejniczak, who has a robust background in coaching at both the collegiate and high school levels, will commence his role at the university. [Oscar Olejniczak](https://ltuathletics.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/oscar-olejniczak/546) brings a wealth of experience to Lawrence Tech, having served in assistant coaching roles at Michigan State, Wayne State, and Campbell universities. His coaching career also includes significant achievements in high school football within the Catholic League, guiding teams from Detroit U-D Jesuit and Royal Oak Shrine to success.

Josh Stein

Assistant Coach

After a four-year playing career, Josh Stein joined the coaching staff as the graduate assistant in the Fall of 2020. After a one-year break from coaching, Stein will return to the LTU coaching staff in Fall '24. Stein was a member of the LTU men's golf team for four years, 2016-2020.  While at LTU, he earned All-WHAC Second-Team honors in the 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 seasons. He finished his LTU career with a scoring average of 77.31. Stein shot his career-low of 66 (-6) in the first tournament of the season in 2018-2019 at The Grande in Jackson, MI. Stein played his high school golf for the Detroit Catholic Central Shamrocks from 2012-2016, earning two state championships. Stein completed his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, and Master's Degree in Engineering Management, both from LTU.

Assistant Coach

Justin White arrives at Lawrence Tech University after one season at St Norbert College, where he was the Quarterbacks Coach and Pass Game Coordinator. During his time he mentored Peyton Lyon (QB) to all conference status as well as a part of an historic 8 game winning streak to finish the season (8-3) (Most Wins Since 2018) and a 2024 Lakefront Bowl win which was first in school history. After Concluding this historic season following the mentorship and development from Coach White it helped Propel Peyton Lyon (QB) to Transfer from Division 3 St Norbert College to Division 1 FCS University of Central Arkansas. Prior to one season at the University of Findlay, where he was the running backs coach. In his time there, he mentored the all-time leading rusher in Great Midwest Athletic history, Brian Benson, while also mentoring junior running back Garett Clark to All-Conference honors in the same season. Prior to the University of Findlay, White was the running backs coach at Defiance College in 2022. The Yellow Jackets ground game was statistically the best since 2010 and yielded an All-Conference performer in running back Tyshaun Freeman. As a player, White spent four years at Kentucky Christian University where he played quarterback and was a team captain. White earned his Bachelors Degree in business administration.

Kyle Nystrom

Coach

Kyle Nystrom serves as the Lawrence Tech defensive coordinator, beginning with the 2024 campaign.  Nystrom, who has head coaching experience in the NCAA Division II ranks in the state of Michigan at Northern Michigan University from 2017 to 2022, got his start in coaching football as a graduate assistant under George Perles at Michigan State in the 1980s. During the 2023 campaign, Nystrom coached linebackers at Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire. In the 1990s, he oversaw the linebacker position at Western Michigan before moving on to coach at TCU in the early 2000s. Nystrom has held assistant head coaching jobs at Central Michigan (2010-2014) and North Dakota State (2006-2008). In the mid-2010s, he ran the defense at Ferris State for Tony Annese and the 2016 Bulldogs squad appeared in the Division II final four. Nystrom also has spent time in the Big 12, Mid-American and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conferences. Nystrom’s father, Carl “Buck” Nystrom, was an Upper Peninsula and MSU Spartans playing and coaching legend.

Chuck Bullough

Coach

Bullough descends from the state of Michigan's First Family of linebackers and along with late dad Hank are considered legends as both players and coaches in the Mitten. After starring for the Michigan State Spartans' defense in the late 1980s and early1990s, Bullough played in the NFL for four seasons (1992-1995), suiting up for the Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins. His coaching pedigree includes gigs in the Big Ten (Michigan State), SEC (LSU), Pac-12 (UCLA) and ACC (Syracuse) and in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns. Bullough was also part of the turnaround at Eastern Michigan, developing future NFL All-Pro Maxx Crosby at the rush end spot. In seven seasons coaching in the NFL, he sent 11 of his position players to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. The Bears organization credits Bullough with being the driving force behind the maturation and Hall of Fame career of linebacker Brian Urlacher.

Dillon Dixon

Coach

Dillon Dixon is in his first season in 2024 as LTU's defensive backs coach under Blue Devils head coach Scott Merchant. Dixon prepped in high school at Detroit U-D Jesuit in the early 2010s, earning All-Catholic High School League honors at the cornerback position. He played in the secondary at the NCAA Division II collegiate level for Saginaw Valley State.

Ra-mon Watkins

Coach

Ra-Mon Watkins is entering his first year season at Lawrence Tech University. He joins Coach Merchant's staff after spending the past 20 years in public education as a math educator and athletic coach. At the High School level Mr. Watkins has coached multiple sports, serving multiple roles, including Head Coach. Mr. Watkins prepped at St.Martin Deporess and played his college football at the University of Michigan from 1987-1989.

Tyler Washburn

Tyler Washburn comes to LTU after also serving on head coach Scott Merchant's staff at Chippewa Valley High School in Macomb Township, Mich. There, Washburn coached Chippewa Valley's offensive line from 2017 through 2023. In college, he played at Northwood University (Michigan) and Kentucky Christian as an offensive lineman.

Justin White

Justin White joins Lawrence Tech University, where he will serve as the Quarterbacks Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. He arrives after a successful season at St. Norbert College, where he served as the Quarterbacks Coach and Wide Receivers Coach, while also holding responsibilities as the Pass Game Coordinator. During his time at St. Norbert, White played a key role in guiding the team to an 8–3 record—the program’s most wins since 2018—including a historic eight-game winning streak and a 2024 Lakefront Bowl victory, the first in school history. Under his mentorship, quarterback Peyton Lyon earned All-Conference honors and later transferred to Division I FCS program, the University of Central Arkansas. White also developed First Team All-Conference wide receiver Mitch Van Vooren, whose standout season led to him signing with the Seattle Seahawks. Prior to his time at St. Norbert, White spent one season as the Running Backs Coach at the University of Findlay, where he mentored Brian Benson, who became the all-time leading rusher in Great Midwest Athletic Conference history. He also coached junior running back Garett Clark to All-Conference honors during that same season. In 2022, White served as the Running Backs Coach at Defiance College, where he helped the Yellow Jackets produce their most productive rushing attack since 2010. His work that season contributed to running back Tyshaun Freeman earning All-Conference recognition.
