William Tatge

Head Coach

Tatge is no stranger to success after claiming the 2014 Appalachian Athletic Conference and AVCA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the year during his two-year stint at Montreat College in Montreat, N.C. "I would like to thank Dr. (Barry) Buxton and Craig McPhail for this wonderful opportunity. I am excited to build on the success that these young ladies had last season as well as the tremendous success that the women's volleyball program has had in its very impressive history," said Tatge. "I think we have a great group of ladies returning and I am looking forward to building the program into a conference and national contender." As the assistant women's volleyball coach and head junior varsity coach, he organized all travel plans and meals for road trips while scouting and developing practice plans to simulate opponents and created scouting reports. Tatge was responsible for planning and executing individual practices for the hitters, blockers, setters and back row players while maintaining all aspects of game film. Prior to his time at Montreat, Tatge was the head men's and assistant women's volleyball coach from May 2012-July 2013 at Durham University in Durham, United Kingdom. He performed a wide variety of coaching tasks on the practice and game court. He served as the liaison between the volleyball program and athletic department as the head men's coach. From Aug. 2010-May 2012, he was the assistant coach at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn. Tatge assisted in running summer camps and clinics and assisted greatly in the recruiting process. Tatge played for a trio of teams as a right side hitter, including Indiana University. He was a setter/right side hitter for Team Durham and Team Northumbria. He earned a bachelors in history with a business administration minor at Bethany Lutheran College in May 2011 before earning his masters in management. Tatge is USAV CAP 1 and IMPACT certified.

Henry Chuang

Head Coach

Chuang comes to Bobcat Country with a plethora of experience in the mens volleyball scene after finishing a two-year stint as the assistant coach at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. During the 2013 season, he served as the interim head coach for the womens volleyball team. Prior to Vassar, Chuang spent five years (2008-2013) as the assistant coach for both the mens and womens teams at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pa. While assisting the mens SFU squad, the team won 12 or more matches in five of his six seasons, including 15 in 2009. Chuang helped lead the womens team to 14 wins in the 2012 season, including a 10-6 mark in conference play. Henry has a great personality and will have a great impact on our young men in the program. I am thrilled to have him on our staff and representing Lees-McRae College, said McPhail. From 2011 to 2014, he was the court coach for a boys volleyball camp at Penn State University in College Park, Pa. Chuang spent six years in Germany and led the U-20 Juniors team to a vice-national championship in 2007. I would like to thank Mr. McPhail and President Barry Buxton for this wonderful opportunity to work with the men's volleyball team and to be a part of the athletics family at Lees-McRae, said Chuang. I have spoken with the team and everyone is as excited as I am for the upcoming season and I know we will accomplish some great things as we work to meet the goals that we set as a team. I look forward to the future and helping this team contend for the Conference Carolinas title. He is fluent in German and a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, where he serves as a chapter advisor.
