Frank TanQ Turner will be the 25th Head Football Coach in program history and the sixth since the Lions revived the program in 2008. Turner is no stranger to The Den, serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach since he arrived in 2018. During his tenure as defensive coordinator, the Lions have become a respectable defense in the CIAA.  Over the last six seasons, the Lions defense improved dramatically under Turners leadership. The 2022 season was, by far, statistically, their best. Under Turners guidance, the Lions have produced 10 All-CIAA players, 1 All-American, and the first player in school history selected to the HBCU Legacy Bowl defensively.  During Turners coaching career, he has been a part of nationally-ranked defenses. In his first season at Kentucky State University, Coach Turner helped lead a defensive unit ranked 10th nationally in total defense. In 2014, the Thoroughbreds improved by finishing third in the SIAC in first down defense. In 2015, their defensive unit was one of the best in the country, finishing second nationally in total defense, first nationally in first down defense, third nationally in rushing defense,  and sixth in pass defense efficiency.  In 2009, Turner joined Fort Valley State University as a graduate assistant coaching defensive tackles. At the onset of the 2010 season, he was assigned to the defensive tackles full time and a part of the Wildcats defensive unit that was ranked first in SIAC total defense and first nationally in total defense. He had five NFL prospects that were invited to NFL training camps.  Turner comes from a winning pedigree at Albany State University under Legendary Coach James Mike White. At Albany State, Turner won two HBCU national championships, three SIAC conference championships, and two NCAA DII playoff appearances as a Golden Ram. As a player at Albany State, Turner was a Dirty Blue defense member, earning 1st Team All-SIAC, Black College All-American, and D2 All-American honors for the Golden Rams.  Turner is a graduate of Albany State University, where he received his BA in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Electronic Media. Turner is also a United States Sports Academy graduate with a Masters in Sports Management. Coach Turner is the proud father of two sons, Frank Turner III and Maverick Turner.
