Linfield College Men's Soccer

Andrew Duvall is in his sixth year as head coach of the Linfield men’s soccer program. Duvall came to Linfield after spending eight years as assistant men’s coach at Concordia University-Portland. While at Concordia, Duvall managed a multitude of responsibilities, including recruiting, team training, academic mentorship, team travel, program budgeting, camps, team equipment and team scheduling.    The CU men’s program compiled a record of 90-60-14 during Duvall’s tenure, all while transitioning from an NAIA institution to a full-fledged member of NCAA Division II.   As a player, Duvall lettered four seasons in soccer at Concordia from 1999 through 2002, playing in 73 career matches. He began as an assistant coach at Concordia in 2011.   Duvall holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National B License and a USSF National Youth License. He completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Concordia in 2003 and went on to earn a master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in sport administration and coaching from the University of New Mexico in 2011.   Duvall has been a head coach, age group coordinator, assistant director of coaching and director of coaching for various youth soccer organizations in Washington, New Mexico and Oregon.   At Concordia, Duvall served as the athletic department’s director of internal operations, facilities coordinator, and taught courses as an adjunct professor within the School of Management and Department of Exercise and Sport Science.   Andrew and his wife, Susanne, are raising three young sons.  

Alex Ponce is his eighth season as an assistant coach of the Linfield men’s soccer team.   Ponce also currently coaches at FC Portland Academy, overseeing the Under-16 and Under-18/19 boys divisions. He has been with the academy since 2013.   Prior to coming to Linfield, Ponce was the head coach of the girls varsity program for four years at Rex Putnam High School in Milwaukie, Oregon. He was an assistant coach on the staff for three years before being elevated to head coach.   In 2014, Ponce guided the Lady Kingsmen to their only league title and reached the semifinals of the Oregon Class 5A State Tournament. He was named the 2014 Oregon 5A State Coach of the Year after the stellar season.   Ponce played high school soccer at Hood River Valley and was named the Oregon State Soccer Player of the Year in 2003.   He started his college career at Clark College where he was named 2004 Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year.   He transferred to Concordia University-Portland, where he was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in 2007 and was a first team all-CCC midfielder. He also earned NAIA honorable mention All-America recognition.   After college, Ponce went on to play in the Professional Arena Soccer League for the Stockton Cougars in 2011 and played for Portland City FC in Major League Futsal during the 2015 season.   Ponce resides in Portland.
